Man arrested on suspicion of multiple Sanger robberies

Sanger police detec- tives last week arrested a man suspected to be responsible for a recent string of robberies in the city.
On Dec. 9, detec- tives were preparing to serve a search warrant for a residence in the county when they spot- ted Oscar Rios Gracia leaving the residence on a bicycle. Detectives trailed Gracia to a con- venience store near the intersection of Jensen

Police said in a news release that because of the severity of the crimes being inves- tigated and potential hazard to public safety, detectives decided to immedlately arrest Gra- cia. They entered the business and took him into custody without in- cident.
During the arrest, detectives found a hand- gun in Gracia’s posses- sion. The gun was deter-
mined to be stolen out of the city of Fresno.
Gracia’s was arrest- ed and booked into the Fresno County Jail on several felony charges, including three counts of robbery and a single count of a convicted felon in possession of a firearm. A subsequent search of Gracia’s resi- dence collected addition- al evidence linking him to the robberies.
As of Dec. 12, Gar- cia remained in custo- dy in the county jail on $325,000 bail.

Thurs, December 10
An unwanted person was reported in the 700 Block of Blooming- dale Avenue, reporting party said subject was pushed outside but be- gan banging on door.
• 2500 Block of Jensen Avenue - Hit and Run vehicle accident was re- ported. No injuries were reported and a vehicle description was provid- ed. The investigation is on-going.
• 1400 Block of Richard - Officers responded to the location for reports of a deceased 88-year- old, male. The subject had been in Hospice care for the past several weeks and expired due to medical issues.
• North and J Street - Male subject contacted in a parked vehicle for an expired registration over 6 months. Officers searched the vehicle and located a controlled substance and drug par- aphernalia. Male was ar- rested and transported to the Fresno County Jail.
• 1500 Block of O Street - Grand theft of tired from a business. Inves- tigation is ongoing.
Friday, December 11
A shots fired call was reported in the North- ridge and Lincoln ar- ea with about a dozen shots that sounded like they came from a high- caliber weapon.

A report of two males entering the restrooms at Rose Ann Vuich Park.
Sunday, December 13
A harassment call was made in the 500 Block of North Lillie, was an ongoing issue from an- other resident at the facility.
Police in Sanger mourn death of former police chief
Staff Report
The Sanger Police Department is mourn- ing the loss of their for- mer police chief, Robert O. Bustamante.
The department wrote in a statement that Bustamante died on Dec. 6 surrounded by family, friends, and his wife of 70 years, Ernestine.
Bustamante began his career with the Sanger Police Department in 1956 as a patrol officer and promoted through the ranks, first to detec- tive then detective ser- geant. He was sworn in as police chief for the department in 1966 at the age of 36.
