On this week in 2019
This week in 2019 was far different than the current COVID-19 pandemic disrupting high school sports. In prep basketball, Reedley High School's boys (left photo) captured a second straight tournament championship by win- ningtheLiberty-MaderaRanchostitleonDec.14.DinubaHighandJoshMagana(upperleft) claimedasecond straight Andrew Bedoya holiday classic crown on Dec. 16. Sanger High, featuring a Jon Dillon slam dunk (above) rolled to a non-league win over Paso Robles High on Dec. 14 before going to Hawaii and posting a 2-2 record at the Lahainaluna Holiday Classic the week before Christmas. The onset of COVID led to the cancellation of state playoffs.

Bulldog football collapses late in 49-39 loss to Lobos
MVT Staff Report
The season appears over for the Fresno State football team, and it came on an extremely low note.
The Bulldogs (3-3) collapsed in the fourth quar- ter, blowing a 31-28 lead and yielding three touch- downs in the period en route to a 49-39 loss to New Mexico the evening of Dec. 12 in Las Vegas. The Lobos entered the game with a 1-5 record, and have had to play their home games at Sam Boyd Stadium because of COVID-19 restrictions in place in New Mexico.
Fresno State entered the final 15 minutes cling- ing to a three-point lead, but fell apart defensively down the stretch as Nathaniel Jones rushed for a 10-yard touchdown and Bobby Cole added scoring runs of 35 and 9 yards.
The Lobos' defense also punished Bulldog quar- terback Jake Haener in the quarter, forcing an in- terception and physically beating on the sopho- more. Haener did manage to throw for 350 yards and three touchdowns.
Sanger and Buchanan High product Jalen Crop- per closed out his sophomore season with the Bull-
dogs by hauling in a season-high 12 catches for 134 yards including a 10-yard touchdown reception in the opening quarter.
Cropper finishes the campaign with 37 recep- tions for 520 yards (14.1 YPC) and five TDs. His biggest game of the season came Nov. 14 at Utah State when he collected 202 receiving yards on 10 catches while scoring three touchdowns.
Senior linebacker Arron Mosby closed out his Fresno State career by making eight tackles, three solo, in the game.
All told, New Mexico finished with 499 yards, 299 on the ground. The defense also sacked Haener eight times.
