Phyllis Ann Toews
December 20, 1932 ~ January 25, 2018
Lic.#FD626
God called Phyllis home on January
25, 2018. Phyllis was born in French
Camp, CA on December 20, 1932 to
Loren and Opal Forrest. The family moved
to Reedley on April 28, 1944 and became
active members of Reedley Mennonite Brethren Church. Phyllis attended local schools and meet Don Toews while at Immanuel High School.
Phyllis and Don were married on March 31, 1951 and lived in the Reedley area where they raised their three boys. Phyllis loved her family and enjoyed family/friend get togethers. She loved to cook for her family and in our opinion, made the best zwiebach in town. She also helped on the family farm driving tractor when the raisins were picked up. Many summer vacations included backpacking, where Phyllis endured the grueling pace set by Don and the boys.
Phyllis was predeceased by her parents; her brother, Jack Forest; her sister, Judy Ross, and a grandson Danny Toews. She is survived by her sons and spouses, Bruce (Karen) Toews of Dinuba, Bob (Patti) Toews of Reedley, Jerry (Karen) Toews of Clovis, and many grandchildren and great grandchildren.
A celebration of Phyllis’s life will be held on Thursday, February 8 at 11 a.m. at the Reedley Cemetery Pavilion. Reception following at Reedley Mennonite Brethren Church. All are welcome.

Police arrest 4 men in attempted vehicle theft
Staff Report
Police arrested four men from the Fresno area Jan. 24 after they attempted to steal a car just west of downtown Reedley.
Investigators don’t believe the case is related to a recent rash of vehicle break-ins in downtown Reedley and sur- rounding areas.
Police arrested 22-year-old Fernando Alvarez, 21-year- old Jorge Alvarez, 21-year-old Robert Ramirez and 21-year- old Nicolas Fernandez. The men were booked into Fresno County Jail on charges of re- sisting arrest and attempted vehicle theft.
A check of county jail re- cords on Jan. 30 showed the suspects had been released from custody.
According to Police Chief Joe Garza, an alert resident called police about the pos- sible theft in the 1900 block of 11th Street, just west of I Street at about 5:40 a.m. Of- ficers arriving to the scene found the four men and took them into custody.
Reedley police Lt. Marc Ediger credited the witness for quickly calling police. That allowed officers to immediate- ly get to the scene and make the arrests.
May 2, 1930 ~ December 22, 2017
Ediger asks the public to continue watching out for il- legal activity and report any suspicious behavior or activity around parked vehicles.
Police also reported a residential burglary and an attempted break-in into an- other residence the week of Jan. 22-28.
