MVT Staff Report
Despite not having a season for 2020 because of the COVID-19 pandem- ic, Dinuba Youth Football still is putting on fundrais- ers to raise money for the league and its activities.
A lasagna dinner fun- draiser is scheduled for Friday, Aug. 14. The $25 dinner includes six rolls of lasagna, salad and a garlic stick. All proceeds from the dinner go to help the league.

Those who had signed up for their child to play in the 2020 season have two options: carry their registration fees to the 2021 season with the pos- sibility of a modified sea- son in January, or to take a full refund.
More updates on league events can be found on Dinuba Youth Football’s Facebook page.
Former Apaches
must wait to take the
field for Fresno State
MVT Staff Report
Amidst the ongo- ing challenges and con- cerns of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Moun- tain West Conference announced on Monday, Aug. 10, that it will post- pone all scheduled fall sports indefinitely. The Board of Directors for the conference sited the physical and mental health and well being of student-athletes as their priority in coming to the decision.
“Nothing is more im- portant than the health and well-being of our stu- dents, student-athletes, coaches, faculty, staff and overall communi- ties,” said Dr. Mary Pa- pazian, President at San José State University and Chair of the MW Board of Directors. “The best interests of our students and student-athletes re- main our focus and we
will persist in our efforts to forge a viable and re- sponsible path forward.”
Affected by the con- ference’s decision are men’s and women’s cross country, football, women’s soccer and women’s volleyball. Last week, the league also an- nounced the cancellation of men’s and women’s golf, men’s and women’s tennis, women’s swim- ming and diving, men’s and women’s indoor track and field, softball and baseball.
The Mountain West will now look into the pos- sibility of rescheduling fall sports, with a chance that they could compete in the spring. The status of winter sports remains under discussion by the league.
The decision affects three players on the Fresno State football roster with ties to Sanger
Arron Mosby
as well as one former Apache on the women’s soccer team for Fresno State.
Linebacker Arron Mosby (Sanger High Class of 2016) is entering his senior year at Fresno State. As a junior, Mosby appeared in all 12 games for the bulldogs and col- lected 78 tackles on de- fense, including 40 solo stops and was fourth on the team in tackles.
Entering his sopho- more year at Fresno State is Jalen Cropper (Sanger High 2015-17). The four-star recruit had a standout freshman year for the Bulldogs, compil- ing 652 all-purpose yards
Jalen Cropper
over 10 games – the sec- ond most on the team. With opportunities to play for Cal, Utah and even Nebraska, Crop- per chose to stay close to home, to the delight of Fresno State and Bulldog fans.
Joining Cropper and Mosby this year is 2020 Sanger High graduate Kosi Agina. As tailback for the Apaches last year, Agina racked up 1,054 yards on 90 carries and scored 17 touchdowns.
“Heisaguywecan see doing a ton of stuff on the field,” said Bulldogs’ Associate Head Coach and Offensive Coordina- tor Ryan Grubbs. “We
Kosi Agina
see him in a lot of spots out there for us. Kosi is a good football player and he is right in our back- yard.”
But for the all three former Apaches, the op- portunity to take the field again together in red uni- forms will have to wait.
Also having to wait to take the field is Fresno State women’s soccer forward Audrey Reyna. The 2019 graduate from Sanger High was named the CMAC Midfielder of the Year her senior year as an Apache and com- peted in all 20 games dur- ing her first season with the Bulldogs, including seven starts.

Reedley’s Anthony Ve- larde collected his third goal of the season, help- ing the Pittsburgh River- hounds SC improve to 4-2 in United Soccer League play with a 4-1 victory over the New York Red Bulls II on Aug. 1 in Pitts- burgh.
Again coming off the bench, the Reedley High and Fresno Pacific prod- uct entered in the 78th minute and collected the Riverhounds’ final goal with a well-placed shot from the left side into the bottom-left corner of the net in the 80th minute.
Anthony Velarde
The midfielder’s three goals this season has him tied with teammate Rob- bie Mertz, who scored twice in the win over the
Red Bulls. Steevan Dos Santos leads Pittsburgh with four goals.
Velarde has started three of the Riverhounds’ six matches and came off the bench three other times. In addition to his three goals, he has an as- sist, an interception while drawing just one yellow card.
Pittsburgh, which leads the Group F stand- ings with 12 points, trav- els to Indianapolis to take on the Indy Eleven on Sat- urday, Aug. 15. The team returns home for a Satur- day, Aug. 22, match with the Saint Louis Football Club.
