Sgt. Gaucin retires
Sgt. Steven Gaucin who retired on Monday after serving Sanger as a police officer for 31 years will be honored by the city council this evening.
Sarah Marie Castro
October 31, 1982 - January 26, 2018
Sarah was born in Sanger, CA on October 31, 1982. After a courageous battle with cancer, Sarah’s life ended on January 26, 2018 surrounded by family and friends.
She is survived by her parents Adolph and Gracie Castro, fiance Marcelino Moralez II, her four chil- dren; Manuel Silva Jr., Ayden Mo- ralez, Ethan Moralez, Marcelino Mo- ralez III, and brothers Adolph Jr. and Ricardo.
Sarah attended Jackson Elementary and graduated from Sanger High School in 2000. Sarah received her Associ- ate’s degree from Reedley College and was employed with the I.R.S. for the past 10 years. While her oldest son Manuel attended Lincoln Elementary, Sarah was an active member of the PTO and was always available to assist when needed.
Sarah was known by everyone as a shy, sweet, caring individual who loved to laugh. She had a heart of gold and loved her family very much. She will be missed by her fam- ily and friends.
Visitation will be at Wallin’s Funeral Home in Sanger on Thursday, February 1, from 5-9 p.m. with the Rosary to begin at 7 p.m. Mass will be held at
St. Mary’s Catholic Church on “O” Street on Friday, February 2 at 11 a.m. A funeral procession to Sanger Cemetery will follow.

Xochitl Sanchez was sworn in Wednesday morning as the newest Sanger police officer.
Officer Sanchez attended Merced College and Fresno Police Academy before joining the Sanger police de- partment.
Her parents Francisco and Alicia Martinez and several relatives and friends attended the swearing in cere- mony where officer Sanchez received her badge and words of encourage- ment from chief Silver Rodriguez and police chaplain Sam Estes.
She will go through a lengthy pe- riod of training and orientation before going out on her own, said Rodriguez.
Gilbert Herrera Sr.
A funeral mass for Mr. Gilbert Herrera Sr. of Sanger was celebrated Jan. 29 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Sanger.
Mr. Herrera, 77, died Jan. 23, 2018. He was a harvest su- pervisor for Harris Ranch.
He is survived by son Gilbert Herrera Jr. of Sanger; daughters Sylvia Herrera and Yolanda A. Garza of Sanger; brother Samuel Herrera of Kingsburg; sisters Lucy Vasquez and Aurora Arenas of Sanger and Olga Herrera of Kingsburg; and six grandchildren.
Mr. Herrera was preceded in death by his wife Olga V. Herrera; brother Florentino; and parents Timoteo and Luisa Herrera.
Wallin's Sanger Funeral Home made the arragements.
WORSHIP IN SANGER
Doyle Seher
A graveside service for Mr. Doyle Keith Seher of Sanger will be held at 1 p.m. on Feb. 2 at Parlier Cemetery.
Mr. Seher, 64, died Jan. 26, 2018. He had been a firefighter with Cal Fire for 35 years.
Dopkins Reedley Funeral Chapel made the arrangements.
Ida Contreras
Ida passed away peacefully at the age of 94 on January 13, 2018, she was born on May 20, 1923.
She was a long time resident
of Sanger, having moved from
Southern California to the Cen-
tral Valley. She enjoyed working
at various jobs, she was a very
outgoing person, everywhere
she went people would refer to her as Grandma Ida.
She worked at several packing sheds during the summer, her greatest joy was working the elections as a precinct officer for over 25 years. Grandma Ida loved her family and friends, enjoyed all gatherings, Super Bowl parties, sporting events, birthdays parties and most importantly the holidays. Famous for her pine- apple upside down cake, she is dearly missed.
Mom is preceded in death by her beloved parents Efren and Barbara Jaurez, her son Bernard Ramos. She is survived by her children and their spouses, Debra and Herman Castaneda, Gloria and John Mar- tinez, Rosie and Manuel Trujillo, Robert and Theresa Ramos, Richard and Marsha Ramos and Roger Lucio and Jerry Sholander. She is also survived by 17 grand- children, 33 great-grandchildren and 9 great-great grandchildren.
A special thanks to Dr. Tagore and his wonderful staff.
Funeral services will be held at St. Justin Martyr Catholic Church, Anaheim, Ca. Interment will be at Fairhaven Cemetery Orange, California.
