Sanger's Jeffrey Gonzalez was among the small crowd that actually showed up for the much publicized - on social media - storming of Area 51, the highly classified Air Force fa- cility long rumored to house extraterrestrial artifacts.
Gonzalez, founder and host of Sanger Para- normal's TV show on the CW, said he was among the approximately 100 "who had the guts to get up at 2 a.m. and show up at the Sept. 20 rally near the Area 51 gates. Nevada authorities, how- ever, say that only about 40 people gathered at the gates before being con- fronted and dispersed
by law enforcement. Gonzalez drew about as much attention as Ar- ea 51, doing interviews with ABC, Buzzfeed and
Gizmodo.com.

pocket. “This is narcan,” he said. “We administer it to anyone who is hav- ing a heroin overdose.”
Boust said in the last month, he and another officer in Sanger had to administer narcan to the same person within a 48 hour period.
The person had over- dosed on heroin.
"We were able to get to them on time," he said. "But we know there will be one day, where we won't be able to."
After riding with Boust, I met up with Abraham Ruiz. He’s been with the depart- ment for 10 years and was going to introduce
me to some of the city’s homeless.
We arrived at Sanger Park. The park is one of the locations where some homeless like to hang out. I was intro- duced to a man named Roy Garcia.
Garcia told me he was an alcoholic. He said he lost his entire family and liked to hang out at the park because he hated “feeling lone- ly.”
I also met Shelby. A pretty and shy 21-year- old who picked up a heroin habit three years ago. She was at the park with her dog and her smile felt sad as she told me her story.
As I continued to meet the city's home- less, I wondered is there
still hope? How can we help?
Or, is the problem too far gone for anyone to help?
One of the factors I did learn while on my ride along is that drugs and / or alcohol were an issue with every single person I met.
Everyone I met was an addict. Whether al- cohol, heroin, or meth- amphetamine, everyone was addicted to some- thing.
Why are the two, drug addiction and hom- lessness so closely re- lated? And have we as a society done all we can to help those who are struggling?
Only time will tell, butfornow—ontothe next city.
