passed away on Wednesday, March 13, 2019 at the age of 94. She was the middle child and only daugh- ter of Emma Belle Morrison and Ernest Leonard Butler. She had an older brother, J.J. and young- er brother, Myron. In the south, you’re sometimes called by your middle name (Ernestine) which she went by, then her friends started calling her Ernie and she’s been Ernie
since way back when.
Our Dad, Clifford Miller was stationed in
Atlanta, Georgia, where he met Ernie at the USO club. He put his arm in hers and said “I’ll take you”. Eight weeks later, they were married in Beeville, Texas on September 24, 1944. They were married for 73 years, prior to Cliff’s death in July, 2018.
Ernie was a stay at home Mom. They had 4 children, Don- na, Carol, Leonard and Glenn. From them, Cliff and Ernie had 7 grandchildren, Michael, Vicki, Douglas, Sandra, Jacob, Kari, and Becky; and 10 great grandchildren, Adrienne, Ni- cole, Evan, Hailey, Hannah, Blake, Gavin, Nathan, Tyler and Abigail. She loved having them around and loved visiting them.
One day Cliff came home from work and said to Ernie.... “How about if I retire and we move to Pine Flat?” They had been camping there for several years. And she says.... “uh... um....ok”. He was 52 years old. They sold the house and moved to Driftwood Trailer Park at Pine Flat Lake. Then they bought property with friends where they both put mobile homes and had a gorgeous view of Pine Flat Lake, which they enjoyed for 25 years. In 2003, they moved to Vista del Monte Mobile Home Park in Sanger where they lived until our Dad passed away, then she lived with her daughter and son-in-law, Carol & Dennis. Cliff and Ernie did a lot of travel- ing with their RV and once took a 3-month RV trip around the United States, visiting relatives and just sight-seeing, which they loved. They said there was too much to see in the United States to travel abroad.
Ernie was a great cook and made the best fried chicken and fried okra ever! Ernie was a lot of fun, devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She loved her family and had a great sense of humor which she kept up until the end.
Cliff and Ernie were members of Grace Community Church for many years and enjoyed their years in Sanger.
