Staff Report
Reedley police are seeking information about a vehicle that left the scene of reported
shots fired in Camacho Park on May 25.
Police Lt. Hector Aleman said that five to six shots were fired inside the park in central Reedley at about 11 p.m. Aleman said that shell casings were found, possibly from a handgun.
Witnesses reported seeing a compact dark-colored Honda Civic, between 1995 and 1997, driving east on North Avenue and north on Haney Avenue moments after the shooting.
Aleman said there were no injuries from the shooting and no one was inside the park when the shell casings were found. Officers patrolling
near the area at the time of the reported gunshots heard the shots. They didn’t find any vehicle in the area when they responded.
Anyone who may have information about the Hon- da Civic is asked to call Sgt. Pelayo with Reedley police at 637-4250. The public also can call the department’s tip lines at 356-8690 (English) or 246- 4183 (Spanish).
In a different case on May 23, a number of personal items reportedly were taken from a house during a mid-morning burglary in the 1200 block of D Street. Aleman said the door was left unlocked.

CARRILLO Continued from page A1
“We were really involved with him,” Carrillo. “That was quite a day. We were believ- ing in him.”
But Carrillo’s thrill turned into sorrow just weeks later. On June 5, moments after delivering a brief victory ad- dress after winning the Cali- fornia Primary, Kennedy was shot by Sirhan Sirhan and died hours later. His death came
barely two months after civil rights activist Martin Luther King Jr., the two events most symbolic of a chaotic year.
“It was unbelievable when we heard he got shot. It was so sad,” Carrillo said. “There was something fishy going on with politics. How can a gunman get into a place like that?”
Kennedy’s appearance at Fresno State was at the height of his popularity with college students that had been build- ing up to and after he entered
the 1968 presidential race in March. Shortly after RFK entered the race, President Lyndon Johnson announced that he would seek a second full term.
Preparing for the upcom- ing California primary, Ken- nedy stopped in Fresno dur- ing a quick tour through the Central Valley.
“It came out on TV with a short clip that he was coming to Fresno,” Carrillo said. “I was thinking ‘Why would he
come to Fresno State?’ We al- ready were starting to follow him.”
Carrillo’s most vivid mem- ory of the handshake? Kenne- dy’s hands.
“His hand was like a wom- an’s hand. It was very soft,” he said. “I was like ‘Wow.’ Then, I jumped off the hill and went around again, and I shook his hand again.”
