“I think Reedley lost a true giant,” she said. “She loved this community. It’s hard for me to reflect on all of the things that she represented here. If some- body needed help, she would be the first one to sign up.”
Denny Mason, Blossom Trail Photography owner who volunteered with the Reedley Downtown Association, called Melville a “pillar of Reedley, particularly with downtown. She will be sorely missed.”
Melville was a tireless ad- vocate — even after she was initially diagnosed with breast cancer in 2005 – for Reedley’s downtown. She and her hus- band shared their passion for the city’s parks.
Last November, Melville received a proclamation of appreciation from the Reed- ley City Council for her years of service on the Parks and Recreation Commission. Her service included trips to Sacra- mento to lobby for grant mon- ey opportunities for the city. She also was a driving force to move community-centered sports and enrichment pro- grams forward.
“I want to thank all of you for letting me be in this position. It’s been great,” she said at the Nov. 14,2017 meeting. “Thank you all, because you’ve been very supportive of me in every endeavor that I’ve taken.”
Zieba said she was thank- ful Melville was able to be honored by the city when she was still fit enough to be able to appreciate it.
There are still so many things I was hoping to work with her on for downtown,” Zieba said. “I feel so fortunate to have spent seven years with her and worked to see her vi- sion for downtown.”
Melville taught business classes at Reedley College for 25 years, and also served as a department head and adviser to student clubs. Some of her former students were among the many messages of trib- ute posted on The Exponent’s Facebook page.
On the page, former stu- dent Linda Aguilar Hefner said, “I was in awe of how she mastered all the roles she took on. She was an incredible force. I will always remember her as an amazing role model.

Pam Melville addressed the Reedley City Council on Nov. 14, 2017, when she received special recognition from the city for her 19 years with the Reedley Parks and Recreation Commission. Melville died June 23 after a long battle with cancer. She was 67.
Reedley was very blessed to have her working in the com- munity.”
Tracy Arakaki was another former RC student who called Melville “an awesome instruc- tor” in his Facebook post.
“I noticed right away she had the heart to help people,” Arakaki posted.
Melville’s influence in the city was such that she was selected as Reedley’s Woman of the Year three times in the course of 30 years. She also was honored as one of the Central Valley’s Top 10 Profes- sional Women by The Business Journal.
“Her intelligence, her en- ergy, her passion for this com- munity were all wrapped up in this mighty little package,” said Zieba. “How do you ever replace that? And yet I think her legacy is such that we re- ally owe it to her to continue that passion for downtown and the community.”
Melville was born in Visa- lia and grew up in Sacramento.
She earned her bachelors’ de- gree in business at the Uni- versity of California, Davis. She married Dale Melville in 1972 and the couple moved to Reedley two years later. Since 1980, Melville has been a notable presence in the city’s downtown.
Azeez said she has been working at David’s to help with the transition. She said the store plans to remain open for business.
“This is Reedley, and what it represents,” she said of the store. “It is part of Reedley. Look at how many businesses have come and gone and she’s still here.”
Azeez said Melville’s co- workers at David’s want to continue her legacy “as much as we can.”
Dale Melville said that me- morial donations in his wife’s name can be sent to the Reed- ley Parks and Recreation Foun- dation, the Reedley Parkway Foundation or the donor’s non- profit organization of choice.

Some people cross their ngers for good luck but there’s a more meaningful Cross you can turn to when you are in need. God is there when you need Him most. Check us out and see how life has nothing to do with luck and everything to do with faith.

My Son,
Another year has come, it’s been ve years now. And “June” is always so hard for us. So many memories we have but “Stanford” is the one I’ll never forget. You woke-up, held my hand and said to me
“I love you, Mom.” I keep those words in my heart and in my thoughts, never will I forget. Life is so hard to understand and life without you is even harder. I miss you “son” and I love you so much! Love Mom
