Foggy conditions safety tips from the sanger police department
Tony Botti
PIO, Fresno County Sheriff's Office
Detectives with the Fres- no County Sheriff’s Office sex crimes unit last week arrested 53 year old Edward Lira of Sanger.
Lira is facing multiple fel- ony charges, which include sex acts with a child under 14.
On Jan. 4, the sheriff’s office received reports from two teenage girls who said they suffered sexual abuse for several years, dating back to 2005. The girls identi- fied Edward Lira as the man responsible for committing the crimes against them. Lira is not a relative of the girls but knew them from prior in- teractions with their family.
On Jan. 5, deputies con- tacted Lira at his workplace on the 600 block of South 5th Street in Fowler, and placed him under arrest. Detec- tives later searched Lira’s residence on the 3300 block of S. Greenwood Avenue in Sanger.
His bail is set at $465,000. Lira is a registered sex
Edward Lira
offender who was released from prison in 1999 after serving time for a convic- tion of oral copulation with a child under 14. At the time of last week’s arrest, Lira was in compliance with his reg- istration requirements with the Fresno County Sheriff’s Office. He is currently listed on California’s Megan’s Law website.
Detectives are seeking the public’s help to identify other possible victims. Anyone with more information about Lira or other victims is asked to contact Sgt. Jeff Kertson at (559) 600-8144 or the sher- iff’s dispatch center at (559) 600-3111.
• Slow down. Driving at normal speeds in fog can be very dangerous. Be sure to slow down so you have more time to react if traffic stops or other hazards appear. When visibility is severely limited find a safe place to park away from travel lanes and wait for conditions to improve.
• Always use headlights, never brights. Avoid using high- beam headlights in fog because fog consists of tiny water
droplets that spread and reflect light. While your high beams are not useful in the fog, remember to turn on your low-beam headlights to help other drivers see you.
• Stay focused on the road. Driving in fog is not a time for multi-tasking. Turn down the radio, stop conversations with other passengers and keep your attention on the road. Roll down your window to help you hear other traffic on the road.

Obituaries
Sandra Jean Burke
September 4, 1944 ~ January 5, 2018
“I am outta here”!!As her mind was
riddled with dementia, Sandra Jean Burke
(Allard), left this cold place in search of
warmer days on January 5, 2018. No more
will she be cold, no more wool socks, felt hats, or electricblanketstokeepherselfwarm. Wearen’tquitesureifsheknew what was happening to her, but every once in a while, her personality would shine through, usually by rolling her eyes in disgust, or using her st to hit someone who was bugging her. That was Mom...a no-holds-barred, realist of a woman, gone now, but likely to haunt us just to keep us all in line.
She leaves behind the love of her life, Michael Thomas Burke, with whomshesharedherdayswithfor53years. Shewouldbethe rsttotell you that he drove her crazy some days, but she couldn’t imagine her life with anyone else. They shared a life full of love, wine, and sarcasm. Love “was” spoken in their house!!
Sandy also had 3 children: Her rstborn, Marcelle Marie Burke (Marci) has been married to Morgan Paul Dailey for 25 years, and together they gave Sandy her 2 grandchildren, Conner Burke Dailey (22) and Lillian Michelle Burke Dailey (17). Sandy’s second child, Michelle Jean Burke, died 2 days after birth from a heart defect. She was looking forward to seeingheragain. Sandy’sthirdchild,LauraJeanBurke, hasbeenmarried to Brian Franz for 12 years. She is also survived by her “adopted” daughter, Chie Hasegawa Herron, who has been married to Timmy Herron for 24 years. Her daughters will keep a close eye on her hubby, Mike. Sandy also leaves behind her “baby” brother, Randy Allard (Jerrie) of Spokane, WA, along with many nieces and nephews.
There will be no service. There may be a Celebration of Life sometime in the summer of 2018...when it’s warm, of course. She was cremated because she didn’t “want to take up any more space.”
In lieu of any sentiment whatsoever, she would appreciate a donation made to her favorite library, where she thoroughly enjoyed being a volunteer.
