Reedley High’s Aaron Todd drove to the basket between Orosi High defenders Arzel Quicie (5) and Denzel Garcia (10) during the Pirates’ 81-26 rout of the Cardinals at the Reedley Tip-Off Classic on Nov. 21. Todd scored a game-high 24 points in a 69-59 loss to the Fowler High Redcats in the tourney finals on Nov. 23, and was named to the all- tournament team along with teammate Augie Villarreal.

with 12 points. The senior scored 24 points in Reedley’s 81-70 semifinal vic- tory over Liberty-Madera Ranchos, and led the team in scoring with 51 points in three games.
Marcus Heinrichs added nine points for Reedley against Fowler (4-0). The Pirates rolled to an 81-26 opening night win Nov. 21 over Orosi High, which had eight regular players out because of the football playoffs. Twelve different Pi- rates scored, led by Heinrichs with 17 and 15 each from Izzy Vildasola and Vil- larreal.
Orange Cove High finished fourth in the tournament, edging Sierra 65-64 in its opener before losing to Fowler (71- 33) in the semifinals and Liberty (69-45) in the third place game. Guard Ricardo Sanchez scored 22 points in the latter game, and was named to the all-tourna-
ment team.
Reedley hosted Yosemite High in a
non-league contest on Nov. 26 (results were unavailable at press time), then travels to Tulare County for a 7 p.m. game against Lindsay on Friday, Nov. 30. The Pirates will participate in the Sierra Pacifiuc Tournament Dec. 4-7 in Hanford.

Last week’s Lady Emps Preseason Tip-Off was the first action for both the Lady Emperors and the Lady Apaches in the 2019-20 basket- ball-season. With league games scheduled to be- gin early next year, the month of December will see a lot of tournament play.
The Lady Emper- ors are coming off a 16- 13 season, going 7-4 in
league play. The entered the Div. III Central Sec- tion playoffs as the No. 12 seed and lost to No. 5 Hoover in the first round, 52-43.
Also participating in the Lady Emps Preseason Tip-Off were the Lady Eagles of Immanuel High School. The Lady Eagles got off to a slow start in the tournament, dropping their first two games to Golden Valley (32-24) and Sanger (60-18) before scoring their first victory on Nov. 22 in a 56-27 win over Woodlake.

With a second place finish in their first tour- nament, and a 3-1 start, the Lady Apaches re- turned to Dinuba on Tuesday, Nov. 26, to take on the Lady Emperors.
Dinuba entered Tues- day night’s matchup with an identical record and finished just be- hind Sanger in the Lady Emps’ inaugural pre- season tournament. Di- nuba, however, fell early in the tournament, but closed strong by winning their final two games of the tournament to take third place.
The Lady Emperors’ only loss of the tourna- ment was to tournament champion Fresno High. Dinuba lost to the Lady Warriors on Nov. 21, 46- 45.
Tuesday night’s game between Dinuba and Sanger was also played exactly one year to the date of the two teams’ last encounter. In that game, Sanger rallied in the fourth quarter for a 40 to 36 win at home.

Eagles look to capture seventh consecutive Central Section Championship this season

The Immanuel High Eagles, Division 4 state runners-up in 2019, tip off the 2019-2020 boys bas- ketball season on Monday, Dec. 2, in Bakersfield.
The Eagles, who cap- tured a sixth consecutive Central Section champi- onship before a memo- rable Northern Regional run to the state title game during a 27-6 season in 2018-19, will take on Ba- kersfield Christian in a 7:30 p.m. tipoff in Kern
County.
Immanuel then will
open the home season in its annual Tournament of Champions event on Wednesday, Dec. 4, against Woodlake High. Other tourney games have the Eagles playing Mission Oak of Tulare on Thursday, Dec. 5; Clo- vis High on Friday, Dec. 6; and an opponent to be determined on Saturday, Dec 7.

Sanger drops season opener to Clovis North MVT Staff Report
The Sanger Apaches varsity boy’s basketball team managed to pull within three points at half time of their season open- er against Clovis North on Friday, Nov. 4.
But the Broncos out- scored the Apaches in both the third and fourth quarter to win the match 78-63.
Sanger’s next game will be on Wednesday, Dec. 4, when they travel to Fresno to take on Roos- evelt (1-0) in a non-confer- ence matchup.
Last year, the Apaches went 15-10 on the season with a 4-6 league record.

Lady Pirates are off to a fast start
Reedley High’s Precious Hawkins dribbled past Foothill defender La’Khia Fite during the Pirates’ 59-17 victory over the Trojans on Nov. 20. The senior guard scored 10 points in the victory.

It didn’t take long for the Reedley High Pirate girls to establish domi- nance in their home basketball opener on Nov. 20.
Sophomore guard Miah Paz scored 10 of her game-high 24 points in the opening quarter, and the Pirates (2-0) built a 10-point lead to 21 points by half- time. That grew 39 points by the end of three quarter, and with a running clock in the final period Reedley coasted to a 59-17 victory.
Paz, who established Reedley scor- ing records as a freshman, scored all her points in the first three periods including a 3-point basket to beat the buzzer in the third. She sand 10 of 17 shots from the field — including 3 of 7 from beyond the arc — and added seven rebounds and seven steals with
her attacking defense.
Seniors Madison Haney and Pre-
cious Hawkins added 11 and 10 points, respectively. Haney overcame a cold start to collect five field goals and added 11 rebounds, two assists and two steals. Hawkins chipped in with eight rebounds, five assists and three steals. Senior Abby Delport had nine points, three steals and two assists.
Reedley’s defense limited Foothill (0-1) to 6 of 31 shootings from the field, and the Pirates held a 35-18 advantage on the board while forcing 21 turn- overs.
Reedley hosted Kingsburg High in an afternoon non-league on Nov. 26. Results were unavailable at press time. The Pirates will travel to Delano to take on Kennedy High on Tuesday, Dec. 3, and then will host the three-day Reedley Holiday Tournament starting Thursday, Dec. 5.
