Santa Claus will make an appearance on stage during the concert and will be available before and/or after the event for photographs. The stage at Hellbaum Auditorium will be decorated with festive holiday items. The cost of the event is $5 for adults and $3 for students.
“This isn't our first Christmas concert, but it's our first show oriented performance and first time charging admission,” Sawatzky said. “I am hoping we can expand on it next year and make it bigger and bigger each year.”
Sawatzky hopes to get an orchestra next year to perform with his choir. He stated that Dinuba High's band would perform with them in the past, but with both organizations growing the auditorium can't hold both groups. The band will hold their winter concert on Tuesday, Dec. 12 in the east gym at 7 p.m.
The choir is using the concert as a fund raiser for their trip to Carnegie Hall on March 23. The 24-member madrigals choir group will be making the trip to New York. So far the choir has raised $35,000, including each student contributing $600, but still needs $8,000.
Last month the madrigals held a dinner- auction which raised a little over $13,500.
“At first I didn't know how we were going to do because it was the first time doing anything like it,” Sawatzky said. “I was overwhelmed on how generous our community can be. I would have been happy making $8,000.”
The madrigals will also perform at the Dinuba Chamber of Commerce's mixer on Dec. 13, the day before the concert. Sawatzky's choir group is already scheduled to perform at five or six events this month.
“Everybody wants to have a choir sing at their event during the holidays,” Sawatzky said.

The community of Dinuba can listen to Christmas songs sung by Dinuba High School choir members, see and take photos of Santa, and at the same time help 24 students fulfill their dream of performing at Carnegie Hall in New York.
The winter concert, performed by the five choir groups [women's ensemble, concert women's choir, men's choir, concert choir and madrigals] at Dinuba High, is titled “Winter Fantasia” and will be on Thursday, Dec. 14 at Dinuba High's Hellbaum Auditorium at 7 p.m. The choirs will perform 18 songs. At the end of the event the 150 choir members will surround the audience and everyone will sing a variety of Christmas carols.
