Reedley High's hopes at a second straight North Yosemite League football championship and a possible unbeaten season were dashed in a 42-35 shootout loss loss to Sunnyside High in Fresno on Oct. 28. The Pirates' reward? A first- round road matchup against a small schools state power in a tough Division III bracket.
Reedley (8-1, 4-2 NYL) will East Sequoia League champion Strath- more High (10-0) at 7 p.m. Friday, Nov. 5. Both schools have moved up to D-III in the new Cen- tral Section playoff seed- ing format. The Spartans have moved up three divisions since winning the state Division VI state crown in 2019.
Two Mid Valley Times region schools will have home games in first round matchups on Friday. Immanuel High (5-3) drew the top seed in Division V, and will host No. 16 while Di- nuba High (6-4, 3-2 Cen- tral Sequoia) is the No. 3 seed in D-III and will host No. 14 Edison High (2-6). Both games are re- matches, as the Eagles downed the Lions 40-13 on Oct. 15 while the Em- perors lost 40-20 to the Tigers on Sept. 17.
Sanger High (5-5, 2-2 County Metro) is seeded No. 11 in Divi- sion II, and will travel
