The Reedley Pirates passed a pivotal Thurs- day road test in Fresno on Oct. 14, moving one step closer to a final week showdown for the North Yosemite League football championship.
Senior Ryan Warken- tin rushed for 215 yards on 20 carries and five touchdowns, and the Pirates (7-0, 3-0 NYL) remained perfect on the season with a 42-21 victory over Roosevelt High at Sunnyside Sta- dium.
Warkentin continued to add to his impressive season total, which is now at 1,266 yards and 20 rush touchdowns. He's also added 243 re- ceiving yards and three TDs. Warkentin finished up at quarterback in the wildcat formation.
Regular QB Jacob Rocha completed 6 of 8 passes for 47 yards, in- cluding a 15-yard touch- down to Cesar Guzman, before exiting the game with an injury. The Pi- rates' defense limited Roosevelt (4-4, 1-2) to just one score in two- plus quarters while the offense built a 25-7 lead.
The Pirates and Sun- nyside High continue on a collision course for NYL supremacy. The

Wildcats (6-1, 3-0) kept pace in league with a 34- 7 drubbing of McLane on Oct. 15. The leaders close the regular sea- son on Friday, Oct. 29, in Fresno.
Reedley now hosts McLane as part of its Senior Night on Friday, Oct. 22, at Sal Gonzalez Field. The Pirates are likely to receive at least
home game in the sec- tion playoffs, depending on their division place- ment.

sion came up short. The Vikings (6-2, 3-0) rallied from a 35-21 fourth quarter deficit to force OT, and then scored first in the extra session before the Emps (4-4, 1-2) drew within a point on Casimiro Bar- ragan's 25-yard TD pass. Barragan finished the

Reedley College may have lost its National Division Valley League football opener in Sacra- mento on Oct. 16. But according to head coach Rob Hartenfels, don’t blame the Tiger defense.
“ The defense played an out-
standing game and gave us a chance to win,” said the coach after the 16-14 conference loss to a 2-4 Sacramento City College Panther team. “Our offense just did not execute well.”
Reedley takes a 4-2 season re- cord into a 1 p.m. matchup Satur- day, Oct. 23, at the Reedley High School Stadium and Sal Gonzalez
Field against the 4-2 Modesto Junior College Pirates. Modesto opened conference play on Oct. 16 with a 65-14 homecoming win over the winless West Hills Col- lege Falcons. The Pirates aver- aged 11.7 yards per play against West Hills and recorded seven
