Sanger came out by the hundreds to listen to the Christmas message from Pastor Paul Canaday and see the town's tree get lit, officially ushering in the reason for the season.

Christmas Dinner for Women of the Community plus a boutique begins with a social hour at 5:30

An Evening of Christmas Joy, featuring the Bells of Praise Choir, is planned at 5 p.m. Dec. 17 at Sanger Community Church, 1610 Jensen Ave. Prepare for an evening of fellowship, light dinner and laughter with the music. Details, 559-875- 2553.
Sanger Rotary’s Jim McCaig Senior Holiday Luncheon is from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Dec. 8 at the Sanger Community Center, 730 Recreation Ave. The meal is free and so is the entertainment. Garza Catering is supplying the food. Rotarians and the Sanger High Interact Club will be serving. So stop by and say hello. There will be ham, mashed potatoes, green beans and dessert and roll.
The 16th Annual City Christmas Health Fair, or Navidad en el Barrio, the annual celebration sponsored by Dr. Jose Luis Bautista, is planned again this year from 8 a.m. to noon Dec. 9 at the Bautista Rural Medical Clinic Inc. parking lot, 2570 Jensen Ave., near Bethel Avenue. There will be food, entertainment and Santa Claus.

Veterans of Foreign Wars Community Breakfast is from 7:30 to 10:30 a.m. Dec. 9 at the American Legion Hall, 1502 O St. Cost is $6. Cub Scout Pack 322 and Boy Scout Pack 322 will assist. The VFW breakfast is usually the first Saturday of the month, but there won’t be one in November.
Sanger Woman’s Club Second Annual Dickens Christmas is planned at 6 p.m. Dec. 9 at the Kings River Winery, 4276 S. Greenwood Ave. Attendees travel back to the 19th century of London with costumes, entertainment and decorations. Silent auction and dinner catered by Pardini’s. Cost is $75. Trek to the Tree by the Sanger Chamber bus leaves early Dec. 10. Tickets are still available. The event is truly one of the best of the season and honors the nation’s fallen. Details, 559- 875-4575.

Consuelo Luna, a former Apache soccer standout, helped her team win the state championship Dec. 3 at American River College in Sacramento. Fresno City College beat Santa Barbara 2-1 in the CCCAA Soccer Final for the win. Luna played 27 minutes. She is the former Miss Sanger. "Didn't get the SHS championship but got it for FCC," said Liz Luna, her mom via text. "FCC hadn't had a championship since 1988. So proud of our former Homecoming Queen."
