St. Mary's Summer Festi- val was great - as usual.
One of the best things about this year's festival, even better than the food, was running into smiling Sanger police officer Sergio Arguello on Friday evening.
Arguello and his partner, officer Julian Rodriguez, stopped by the festival while on patrol to see how things were going with police explorer Briana Esqueda
and volunteer Eder Andrade who were handing out gold foil badges to children and answering questions from parents about the police department.
Arguello was back on the job after a drunk driver ran a red light and smashed into Arguello's police vehicle
on July 28 while he was responding to a domestic violence call. Arguello was treated at Clovis Community Hospital for a concussion and sent home to recover. The other driver, who ran from
the scene, was later arrested for felony drunk driving, causing injury and felony hit and run. "The doctors were really surprised by how fast I recovered," said Arguello.
The young officer, who came close to losing his own life, had been honored at the June 5 city council meeting for helping save the lives
of two brothers who were trapped in their car, partially submerged in a canal.
