Championship week has arrived for the Reedley High and Sanger High football teams, both of which are shoot- ing for a second consecutive league ti- tle in the 2021 calendar year this week.
The unbeaten Pirates (8-0, 4-0 North Yosemite League) have a Thursday, Oct. 28, 7 p.m. showdown against Sun- nyside High (7-1, 4-0) at Sunnyside Stadium in Fresno. It's the third con- secutive season the teams have met for NYL supremacy; Sunnyside winning in 2019 and the Pirates prevailing back in April (2020-2021 spring season).
Sanger, meanwhile, still has a shot at a share of the County Metro Athletic Conference title as it hosts San Joaquin Memorial Friday, Oct. 29, at 7:30 p.m. in Tom Flores Stadium. With a victory, the Apaches (5-4, 3-1 CMAC) can force a three-way tie with the Panthers (7-0, 3-0) and Bullard (5-4, 3-1). The Knights' CMAC finale with Edison this week was canceled, setting the stage for a possi- ble tie as all three teams will only have played four league contests.

After a second straight home confer- ence loss, the Reedley College Tiger football team is scheduled to play two conference games on the road the next two weekends.
The scheduled 1 p.m. opponent on Saturday, Oct. 30, will be the 0-3 West Hills College Fal- cons at Memorial Bowl in Coalinga. West Hills Coalinga had its third game this season post- poned last week due to health and safety pro- tocols. The latest post- ponement was a confer- ence contest against Col- lege of the Sequoias.
The Falcons were short handed the week before in a 65-14 road
loss to the Modesto Ju- nior College Pirates, the same team that rolled to 369 rushing yards in a 35-20 win over Reedley
College at Sal Gonzalez Field on Oct. 23.
The loss dropped the Tigers to 0-2 in con- ference action and 4-3
overall while Modesto improved to 5-2 overall and 2-0 in conference. Modesto hosts Fresno City for the conference
lead this week.
After meeting West
Hills, the Tigers travel to COS for their first matchup on the Giants'
campus field in Visalia on Saturday, Nov. 6.
Last week, Modesto jumped out to a 13-0 lead as quarterback Gi- no Campiotti scored on a 27-yard run and then threw a short touch- down pass to Landen Lucas late in the second quarter.
Reedley got on the scoreboard with 3 min- utes, 9 seconds left in the first half on a 35-yard touchdown pass from Josh Magana to Jalen Jackson.
Before the first half was over, both teams scored. Modesto's An- thony Frias scored from a yard out before the Pirates added the two- point conversion kick.
