At the same time, we encourage the public and community mem- bers to support out lo- cal journalism in the fu- ture with a print and/or digital subscription to The Times. Meanwhile, thank you to all our cur- rent subscribers for their continued loyalty.
We appreciate every- one who continues to trust in our newspaper; we have heard your con- cerns. We will continue to work to bring the most up-to-date infor- mation we receive and keep the communities in the Times' coverage area informed.

in hands-on training. But this is a new world, it's truly a new environment," he said. "I've already passed out in- structions that we're beginning to plan for an online summer school.
"We just don't see this ending soon, because we're trying to protect the safety of our students and the safety of our employees. And the community, for that matter. It's all about distanc- ing to prevent the spread of the virus."
In addition to preparing online in- struction by the college's faculty, RC officials arranged and conducted a pair of electronic town hall meetings. The first took place on March 19, involving staff members, while the second electronic town hall occurred March 24 and involved 113 students and staff.
"I'm proud of the efforts of the fac- ulty and staff over the past four days," Buckley said on March 20. "They've done what many said couldn't be done. But we did it. We had over 150 people online, talking about where we are, where we need to be and what still needs to be done."
Buckley said all participants in the town hall logged in from their own respective computers at home, and he basically opened his laptop and worked from his desk in his office on campus. He said Reedley College is trying to follow the lead of Fresno
State's online education. Like Fresno State, Reedley College has on-campus housing (one dorm building) and an agriculture farm (including the herds- man house).
On March 24, the college officially announced on its social media page the cancellation of the on-campus commencement ceremony; this year scheduled for Friday, May 22. While expressing regret, officials said the college will try to convert the ceremo- ny to an online interactive event. Also, they will try to convert other end-of- year celebrations to an online format.
Buckley said the college is offering to assist in online access for the 3,500 dual enrollment students through 18 different high schools. Also, students still are being served weekdays from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the college's food pantry. Joaquin Arambula, 31st As- sembly representative, has committed additional funding for the pantry.
"I think the key issue for me in this crisis is it's not just that we're offer- ing education, we're offering commu- nity. Because people aren't going to be able to do what they usually do outside their homes," he said. "So by being able to have these electronic conversations and making connections between fac- ulty, student and students to students — and even my office to students and staff – we're maintaining an education community that allows them to feel connected, feel engaged and hopefully feel safe."
