Alta District Historical Society hosts Lincoln Elementary students

In recognition of National Ag Week on March 24, 2020, the Tulare County Farm Bureau and the Tulare County Office of Edu- cation will hold a cal- endar art contest for Tulare County students in grades K-12.

“I came to America when I was 10-years- old,” said Tevy, who came to the states as a Cambodian refugee.
As a child, dis- placed from her home in a strange new land with little to no knowl- edge of the native language, she remem- bered how it was to be a child without a home. Then, she re- called, a member from a Fresno church gave her and her sisters new teddy bears.
“We had never had stuffed animals be- fore,” Tevy said. “So we cherished that so much. It can be lonely and it’s a scary place.”
She is now looking to pay the benefits of that childhood experi- ence forward to chil- dren who might be displaced as a result of

Calendar art contest for Tulare County students now accepting entries

Third grade students from Lincoln Elementary School visited the Alta District Historical Soci- ety to learn about history of the Alta Irrigation Ar- ea and the city of Dinuba on Nov. 15.
Students had lessons in class about life and cultural changes over the last 200 years with the culmination of the lesson visiting the His- torical Society, accord- ing to Lincoln School third-grade teacher, Nadira Arreola.
“There very excited, and they’ve got a mil- lion questions on their perspective on what an- cient or antique is,” said Arreola.
Students learned about some of Dinuba’s historic leaders, like Rose Ann Vuich, while visiting the Depot Muse-

This is the fourth year the historical society has hosted an event as all the elementary schools in Dinuba Unified get a
chance to participate.
In addition, students got to hear Ron Jef- ferson sing traditional songs as well as take part in outdoor activi- ties like jump roping
and hop scotch.
Open Gate Ministries' Decorated Christmas Tree Live Auction Nov. 30

Open Gate Ministries will be holding their 7th Annual Decorated Christmas Tree Live Auction, boutique and silent auction from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 30, at Dinuba First Baptist Church.
Decorated trees, boutique and si- lent auction items have been donated by various clubs, individuals, churches and service organizations of Dinuba. Boutique, silent auction and refresh- ments will be from 2–3 p.m. with the
live auction at 3 p.m.
Admission and refreshments are
free.
Proceeds to benefit Open Gate
Ministries. Open Gate Ministries is a non-profit, non-denominational center which has provided emergency food, shelter and clothing, job training, fi- nancial aid, spiritual encouragement and counseling to the needy of Fresno and Tulare Counties since 1974.
