Baker said.
The Reedley City Council approved
the Faith House facility in April, over- coming opposition from neighborhood residents who said would crime would increase to levels they claimed occurred when the facility was operating as the Marjaree Mason Center for domestic abuse victims. That operation closed down in 2016.
Nicole Zieba, city manager, invited neighbors of the facility to get involved and remain active with the city in polic- ing the area.
“Neighbors, please consider this your house,” she said. “And please help us keep this house shining bright like it is today and providing hospitality to strangers and giving help to those in need.”
Zieba said the shelter — supported by $560,000 in grant funding from the California Department of Finance, used no local tax money.
“Im very proud to say not a single city penny went into fixing this house, to making it as beautiful as it is,” Zie- ba said. “Grants were provided by the state and private funders. Not a single penny of your taxpayer dollars is part of this right now.”

Frank Pinon, the city’s mayor pro tem and a police chaplain who teamed with Baker in bringing the shelter to the city, said Faith House would not have hap- pened without the city’s and community’s support.
“This is not Kenny’s or my project, this is Reedley’s house. It belongs to you
all,” he said.
As visitors ate and shared fellowship,
Baker admitted his satisfaction the real- ization of the vision he had.
“Seeing it now and how it’s come to pass, it’s very exciting,” he said. “I’m excited for what it looks like a couple of years from now.”
