In addition, there will be walking trips to local notable places that could include the Reedley Opera House, the Reedley Museum, the Reedley Library, the police and re departments, and other venues where Reid said “I feel there is something that can be learned and is of interest.”

Tots, the community services department has other programs to help families in need.
Touching Families helps four families through $1,000 donated by the Reedley Sunrise Kiwanis Club. Reid works with principals at particular schools to give these families the necessities and other things “they need to make the holidays a better time for them.” In the past, these items have included oor heaters, blankets and food.

In another e ort, a toy drive will be conducted in December at the city’s
Lap Swim program at the Reedley High School Aquatics Complex.
And, if anyone wants to donate new toys or non-perishable foods, they can bring them to the Reedley Community Center o ce. Cash contributions also will be accepted and are deposited into a donation fund.
e community center also is home to the Reedley Senior Center, which spreads the spirit of the holidays and brings yuletide cheer to its seniors and visitors.
For example, the senior center chooses the holiday season for one of its major annual events – the Volunteer Appreciation Luncheon. It will be held Dec.12.
Christina Ontiveros, the Reedley Senior Citizen Coordinator, said the senior center will be dressed up for the

scene and other decorations.
“It’s very Christmasy here,” she said. And, Ontiveros said, the atmosphere is
embraced by seniors who may not have holiday decorations at home. “ ey have it here,” she said. “We always try to think of something so that it’s special while they’re here.”
e seniors tell her that they appreciate the e ort. “It makes them feel good. It’s welcoming, and they say it looks nice,” Ontiveros said. “It just means a lot to them.”

She was also recently asked if she would be president of a new program for teens currently in the works by Parlier Rotary.
Gonzales has also completed to pre- medicine programs at UC Davis, the university she plants to attend once she graduates high school.
She also has motivated others from surrounding communities to join her cause.
“I’m just extremely proud. It’s amazing. From the beginning we’ve always told her when she started playing softball is ‘as long as you have the grades we’ll do whatever you need,’” Cepeda said. “She’s kept her grades. She’s had a 4.0 grade point average since junior high.
e Orange Cove High School girls’ basketball team and cheerleaders from the Selma Bandits Youth Football program have joined Gonzales’ cause.
e Selma Bandits Youth Football and Cheer program will be hosting a toy drive on Dec. 9 and 10 and all toys will be donated to Gonzales’s cause.
Gonzales’ plays competitive softball year-round. She is in Parlier High’s softball varsity team.
