Jordan Chavez led the Pi- rates with 11 points, while Rog- er Ortiz had five points. Jairo Aguilar, Alex Ortuno and Leo Hernandez each had four.
On Jan. 4, the Pirates lost to Kennedy High School from Delano 71-68 in over- time. Ortuno had 21 points, while Florian Stasch had 19.
Aaliyah Seuell, Immanuel High Eagles girls basketball guard, helped lead the Eagles to a third-place finish at the Fifth Annual Immanuel Invitational.
The Eagles ended the tournament 3-1 and defeated Washington Union High 60-45 in the third-place game on Jan. 6.
The Immanuel Invitational was heldJan.3toJan.6at Immanuel High.
As of Jan. 9, the Eagles are 11-5 overall.

Ortuno made the shot and was fouled. This gave him a free throw with no time left and a chance to send the game into overtime.
He sank it and the Pirates forced overtime.
Reedley High scored the first five points of overtime but were unable to hold off Kennedy High and lost.
On Jan. 5, Reedley High defeated South High School from Bakersfield 48-44 in overtime. Ortiz had 11 points, while Stasch had seven.
On Jan. 6, the Pirates lost to Tulare Union High School 47-31.
Ortuno led Reedley High with 11 points, while Stasch had seven points.
Reedley High played Di- nuba High School on Jan. 9 in Dinuba. No score was avail- able at presstime.
They then opened North Yosemite League play on Jan. 10 against Sunnyside High School in Fresno.

The Pirates will play Sierra High School in the MLK Show- case on Saturday, Jan. 13, at McLane High School in Fresno.

Coach Gonsalves thanked her assistant coaches, her players parents, Franco and the Immanuel Community for their support over the past four years.
However, Gonsalves said in her statement that it was the players that left a mark on her.
“To my players, thank you for making my life bet- ter. Thank you for believing that hard work really does matter,” Gonsalves said. “From the bottom of my heart, thank you to each one of you for giving so much, so selflessly and for believing we could be more. You are inspiring and I am blessed to have been your coach.”
