Sanger High wide receiver Dolce Calandra saw plenty of action on both sides of the ball during the Apache's Oct. 11 league matchup with Bullard High. The senior Apache hauled in six catches for 80 yards. One of those catches helped give his team and early lead as he scored on a crossing route on the Apache's opening drive to put Sanger up 7-0.

third quarter. He would com- plete the hat trick with just under three minutes left in the game on a 10-yard touchdown run, giving his team a 29-7 lead.
Sanger running back Kosi Agi- na, who saw more playing time on Friday on both sides of the ball, added eight points late in the game on a 3-yard touchdown run and two-point conversion.
But getting Agina back as Sanger enters the thick of league play may have come bitter-sweet for the Apaches, as two other key players went down to injuries against the Knights.
By the fourth quarter, Ca- landra and junior running back Morgan Privett both found them- selves receiving medical care on the Sanger bench.
Calandra, who was active on both offense and defense, was walked off the sideline after one of his six catches – complaining of back pain. Privett suffered a leg injury after being tacked late in the game. He was carried off the field by teammates.
Pena said both Calandra and Privett have recovered well from their injuries. However, the team did lose starting safety Isaiah Becerril to a separated shoulder.
Said Pena of his teams’ inju- ries, “We’ve been dealing with injuries all season. This year has been about getting players to step up.”
Calandra finished with 80 yards receiving and a touchdown reception. Privett carried the ball seven times for 34 yards. Agina led all backs with nine carries for 63 yards and a touchdown.
On defense, Apaches’ senior linebacker Pierce Jones finished
the game with 10 tackles and two assists.
With the loss to Bullard, Sanger falls to 5-2 on the season and 1-1 in league play. They return home tomorrow night to face Madera South, who enters 0-2 in league play with a 3-4 overall record. The Apaches lead the series with the Stallions 7-0.
Tomorrow night’s game is Homecoming for the Apaches. The varsity matchup will follow a Hall of Fame mixer in downtown Sanger in which former Apache head coach Chuck Shidan will be honored. Shidan will also serve as grand marshal for tomorrow night’s homecoming parade.
“This week is about regrouping and getting their heads back in the game,” said Pena of his team. “Ev- erybody is ready to be back home. They’ll be ready to roll.”
Tomorrow night’s game is scheduled to begin at 7:30 p.m.

Dominic Martinez
With Bullard's defensive line zeroing in on Sanger's triple-option run, Sanger High quarterback Noel Collazo was forced to go to the air more than usual. While in most games you can count Sanger's pass attemps on one hand, Friday night Collazo attempted 19 passes, completing 8for73yards. Hethrewonetouchdown, oneinterceptionandwassackedfivetimes.
