The Ralph Rosedale Commu- nity Center at the Sierra Village Apartments in Dinuba was un- veiled in a special celebration on Oct. 30.
Rosedale has played a critical role in Self Help Enterprises ef- forts that works with low-income families to build and sustain healthy homes and communities. He — along with Howard Wash- burn, the first Executive Direc- tor of SHE — and other incorpo- rators laid the groundwork for the nation’s first self-help hous- ing non-profit back in the 1960s.
Thanks in large part to Rose- dale’s participation, more than 6,300 families have now built their own homes through SHE’s mutual self-help housing pro- gram. Furthermore, because Self Help was the first organi- zation in the country to focus on sweat equity homeownership for low income farmworkers and other families, he is indirectly responsible for more than 50,000 homes built across the country by organizations modeled after SHE.
