The Immanuel High softball team’s bats have come alive during a recent three-game win streak, including wins at Mendota on March 3 and home against Firebaugh on March 5.
Three days after lighting the scoreboard for 16 runs against Oro- si, the Eagles (5-3) again racked up double fig- ures by outscoring Men- dota, 13-8, at the Aztecs’ field. Back home at “The Nest” against Firebaugh, IHS took the lead for good with a five-run sec- ond inning against their Eagles counterparts. Im-
manuel then scored two runs in the fourth and one more in the sixth, and pitcher Mia Barbosa slammed the door with three scoreless innings in a 9-5 decision.
Immanuel began the Central Sequoia League season on March 10 with a home game against Kingsburg. Results were unavailable at press time. The Eagles then hit the road for non- league games at Laton (Thursday, March 12) and Fresno Christian (Friday, March 13) be- fore traveling to Exeter for a 4 p.m. CSL game against the Monarchs on Tuesday, March 17.
Reedley High softball goes 2-2 in tourney

The Reedley High softball team rallied from a pair of early losses to finish with a 2-2 record in the Javier Bejar Me- morial Swing into Spring softball tournament on March 6-7.
The host Pirates (4-7 on the season) opened the tourney by losing to even- tual champion Mission Oak, 7-5, and Coalinga by a 3-2 score. On Saturday, Reedley swept two Visa- lia schools; defeating Mt. Whitney by a 9-5 score and then downing Golden West, 3-2.
“We’re a very young team; I’ve got nine sopho- mores and two freshman on varsity,” said RHS coach Jason Johnson. “We’re progressively get- ting better.”
Reedley collected 11 hits against Mt. Whitney, with catcher Jocelyn Diaz belting a home run and a double while going 2-for- 3. Trinity Sanchez picked up the pitching win, scat- tering five hits and allow- ing four earned runs.

Former Dinuba High standout and current Fresno State wrestler, Jacob Wright, is named Athlete of the Week after the redshirt sophomore quali ed for the NCAA Championships that will be held next weekend. Wright punched his ticket with a  fth place  nish at 157-pounds at the Big 12 Championships.

(1-3) and Orange Cove (0-4).
Before the Reedley- Coalinga match on March 6, a brief ceremony was held in honor of the late Javier Bejar. Reedley police Sgt. Todd Lowery threw out the first pitch.
On March 5, Reedley held on to defeat Orange Cove, 7-6, after the Titans rallied for five runs in the seventh inning. Cas- tro picked up the pitch- ing win and the Pirates scored four runs in the
first inning and three more in the sixth.
Reedley travels to Exeter for a 4 p.m. non- league game on Thurs- day, March 12. The Pi- rates will play at Chow- chilla at 4 p.m. Monday, March 16, Reedley will host Tulare Western in a 5 p.m. contest on Tuesday, March 24.
North Yosemite League play opens for Reedley on Tuesday, March 31, with a 3:30 p.m. game at Fresno High.

The Apache boys’ fro- sh/soph track team ran away with this year’s an- nual Sanger Spring Clas- sic on the same day the school won their first ever athletics state title as the varsity boys soccer team celebrated just yards away at Tom Flores Sta- dium.
But at Dave Dodson Field, the young Apache runners dominated the field and took top prizes in eight events.
Sanger High sopho- more Jaden Terrones took first place in the 400-meter dash with a time of 52.70 seconds, a time that would have been good enough for fifth place at the varsity level. Classmate Emanu- el Salas finished first in the 800-meter run with a time of 1:58.89, a time that would have placed him second in the varsity race. He also took first place in the 1600-meter run with a time of 4.28.60 (good enough for fourth at varsity level) while sopho- more David DeLoera took third place with a time of 4:32.42.
DeLoera also ran away with first place in the 3200-meter run with a time that would have placed him in the top five at the varsity level, 9:53.05. Freshman Myles Nicacio was not far be- hind, finishing with a time of 10:20.63 for fifth place.
Another Sanger High freshman, Han Yotoun, performed well at hur- dles. He took first place in the 300-meter hur- dles with a time of 46.06 and second place in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 18.99. Sophomore Angel Campa finished just behind Yotoun in the 300-meter hurdles with a time of 47.05 for second place.
And the frosh/soph
4x400 team of Edward Castillo, Terrones, Salas and Alan Pelayo took first place in the event with a time of 3:38.50.
In field events, soph- omore Chidera Agina took first place in the long jump with a mark of 19’05.75”. He also took first place in the triple- jump with a mark of 41’06.5”, nearly 14” far- ther than second place Brody Bendoski of Bu- chanan.
Agina’s older brother, Kosi Agina also had top marks in the long jump events. He took first place in the triple-jump with a mark of 43’05”, nearly two feet farther than second place Devin Kelly of Cen- tral. His mark of 20’08” in the long jump, howev- er, was just one inch shy of Kelly as he settled for second place in the event.
Also placing in the top three were the var- sity boys 4x400 team. The team of Ethan Hunt, Jose Porras, Danny De- Loera and Luis Lopez took third place with a time of 3:39.92.
In girls’ events, Sanger freshman Leah Mendibles finished in fourth place in the 400-meter dash with a time of 1:03.15, just be- hind Reedley High senior Trinity Toews who fin- ished in a time of 1:02.89.
Apache junior Rebe- ca Coronado took fourth place in the 800-me- ter dash with a time of 2:24.40 and took sixth in the 1600-meter run with a time of 5:13.90.
And the girls 4x400 team of Sienna Bianchi, Kaley Cardenas, Mend- ibles and Sonali Ball took third place in their event with a time of 4:18.12.
The Apaches track team will be participating in the Clovis East Carni- val tomorrow and will be back home on Wednesday, March 18, for a league meet. That event starts at 3 p.m.

Young Apache runners dominate the field at Sanger track event
Earlier in the day, Dinuba was held to four hits in a 8-0 loss to Hanford.
On Feb. 28 against Madera, the Lady Emperors had an eight- game winning streak snapped as they committed a season-high five errors in a 7-2 loss to the Lady Coy- otes.
Acevedo led the way with a double and two RBI’s.
In the tournament opener, Flores spaced out seven hits and five strikeouts in a 8-0 shutout win over Frontier.
Acevedo had two hits and 3 RBI’s while Amador went 2-for4 with 2 RBI’s.

to pick up the victory as the Pirates captured the Central Valley Diamond Classic title with a 5-4 victory over Dinuba High on March 7. The junior right-hander has three victories and two saves, helping lead the team to an 8-1 start this season.
