Mid Valley Times
Just two teams from the Mid Valley Times coverage region remain alive in the Cen- tral Section football playoffs.
The Dinuba High Emper- ors (7-4) avenged an earlier loss this season to Edison High from Fresno, blitzing the Tigers (2-7) by a 51-27 score Nov. 5 at DHS in a Division III first round game. Meanwhile, top Division V seed Immanuel High (7-3) beat No. Kerman High for the second time this season; this time hanging on for a 16-12 victory over the No. 16 Lions.
In quarterfinals action Fri- day, Nov. 12, Dinuba will host No. 6 seed Paso Robles in Di- vision III while Immanuel is home to No. 8 Liberty-Madera

Mission Oak downs RHS in section finals
MVT Staff Report
The Reedley High Pirates' post- season charge toward a Central Sec- tion Division V volleyball champi- onship was derailed in the finals by the Mission Oak Hawks, who posted a straight sets victory (25-12, 25-22 and 25-18) on Nov. 6 at West Hills Col- lege's Golden Eagles gym in Lemoore.
Reedley's postseason run was enough to earn the team a berth in the Northern California State Region- als on Nov. 9 in San Francisco against top-seeded The Bay School. Results were unavailable at press time.
"This is a great honor and some- thing that the players and coaches are proud to participate in," RHS coach Ken Tatami said of the at-large state regional berth.
Reedley (19-18) – seeded No. 3 in the section division entering the play- offs — scored home match sweeps of Avenal (Oct. 26), Arvin (Oct. 28) and Wasco (Nov. 2) to reach the finals. The Pirates were aided by upsets of the top two seeds in the bracket that gave them home court advantage.
Against Mission Oak, the No. 5 seeded Hawks took charge early and never let up. Sarah Serrano had 14 kills and Margaret Arambula added 12 kills.
" The section final was a great ex- perience, but perhaps some nerves leaked into the players as we did
not play as we characteristically do. The girls fought hard, but we just couldn't make up the deficit that we had dug for ourselves," Tatami said.
Junior middle blocker Lilian Mar- tinez had 34 kills, six blocks and five ace serves during the four playoff matches, while senior outside hitter Mary Jane Lucero had 24 kills. Soph-

omore setter Kyana Rivera collected 84 assists and 33 digs.
Tatami said the Pirates focused on teamwork to sustain their level of play during the playoff run.
"I and the staff are so very proud of the players and the year that they were able to experience," the coach said.
