JACK WADE CONWAY

Please join us in celebrating the life of Jack Wade Conway on Friday,
July 30, 2021. Jack went home to Heaven to be with his Lord and
at Smith Mountain Cem- etery in Dinuba at 10 am, followed by a “Celebration of Life” Service at the Reed- ley Mennonite Brethren Church, beginning at 11:30
am, followed by a luncheon. Jack was born on Febru-
ary 20, 1935, in Red Rock, Oklahoma. He was the fourth child of Joseph and Ceola (Siler)
Conway. In 1942, traveling on a train, Jack moved from Oklahoma to
Dinuba with his mother and four siblings. His mother married Everett Ayers and two more siblings were eventually added to the family. Jack attended Jefferson Elementary and Dinuba High School, while working for his dad in the concrete business. In 1952, Jack met and married Carol Jean Goodhue, who he af- fectionately referred to as his “sweetheart”. The couple eventu- ally had five children, who Jack often referred to as his “greatest assets”. In the 1950s and early ‘60s, Jack managed Sequoia Jersey Farm in Sultana, both the cows and the creamery. He enjoyed making ice cream, bottling milk and giving tours of the dairy to groups of schoolchildren.
By 1967, Jack was employed by Meadow Gold Dairies of Beatrice Foods and went to Viet Nam, built two milk plants and made reconstituted milk and ice cream for American troops.
In 1968, the entire family lived in Yokohama, Japan, while Jack managed four milk plants. He returned to Viet Nam and the family moved back to Dinuba. In 1971, the family moved to American Samoa and Jack built and managed another milk plant and started a water well-drilling company. Jack loved the Samoan people but returned home in 1975 to begin working for Munson Construction.
Jack established Conway Construction in the late 70s, build- ing homes, apartments, offices and cold storage plants, while continuing with concrete jobs. Many curbs and gutters in the Dinuba-Reedley area were made by Jack and his employees. Jack’s last big project was a car wash in Orosi, completed in 2007.
In 1954, Jack joined the Army National Guard. He graduated from Officer Candidate School in 1957 in Ft. Benning, Georgia and earned the rank of Major before retiring from the Guard.
Community involvement was important to Jack. He helped bring Kiwanis Club to Dinuba and served as its first full-year president. Wanting to help the Alta Historical Society, Jack was instrumental in pouring a concrete foundation and moving the train depot to its current location. He was a member of the Dinuba High School Board of Trustees, active in Aqua Emps Boosters, Music Boosters and Cub Scouts. Jack served several years on the Dinuba City Council and was the Mayor during the early 80s. In 1979, Jack was honored to receive the Dinuba Junior Citizen of the Year Award.
Jack was a member of the Dinuba First United Methodist Church for many years, and more recently, a member of the Grace of God Church in Dinuba.
Those of us who knew and loved Jack enjoyed his huge person- ality and his great sense of humor. He loved to tell stories and make people laugh. He taught each of us: “keep your chin up”, work hard, “don’t sweat the small stuff ” and help others.
Jack is preceded in death by his parents, Everett and Ceola Ayers; sons Rusty and Ronny Conway; adopted daughter Loan Kim Conway; grandson, Micky Hiebert; brothers Bob, Bill and Joe Conway; and sisters Frances Phipps and Helen Ayers Faulkner.
Jack is survived by his wife of 67 years, Carol Conway; daugh- ters Jackie (Bob) Pipkin and Reggie (Gary) McLean; son Rick (Vicki) Conway; daughter-in-law, Noemi Conway Kennedy; brother, Howard Ayers; 14 grandchildren; 20 great- grandchil- dren and 4 great-great grandchildren.
Jack’s family would like to thank Sierra View Homes of Reedley for the excellent care Jack received during the last few years of his life.
