the additional spending has to do with the overall salary increase given public safety employees out of Measure S funds. In addition to wages and health benefits, Measure S money is now being used to pay into CalPERS for pension benefits for all public safety employees who received the raise.
The Measure S fund is in good shape, Watahira told the committee. It looks like 2018 is going to be a better year than 2017 for the three-quar- ter cent sales and use public safety tax fund, Watahira said.
In other committee activ- ity:
• After hearing a report from Measure grant recipi- ent "Unity Estates Commu- nity Services Program - Com- munity Resident Services Inc." it asked the recipient
to return after working with Watahira to get its financial reporting in order.
• It affirmed, on a 4-1 vote, that the purchase of
a $26,640 animal control vehi- cle was an appropriate use of Measure S funds. Commit-
tee member Melissa Griggs voted no.
• It affirmed of a unani- mous vote that the purchase and installation of fencing around the closed circuit cameras in Sanger parks was an appropriate use of Mea- sure S funds.
• It agreed on a unani- mous vote that it wanted
the city council to make the final of four payments to grant recipients immediately, "Retroactive to Jan. 1," as committee chairperson Sue Simpson put it and to start the new disbursement policy of one payment at the start of the new fiscal year.
• It agreed that several items should be included on the agenda for its March 6 meeting:
1. Compliance discussion with resolution No. 4361;
2. Compliance audit up- date; and,
3. What to do with extra grant money for nonprofits.
