In a season in which the Dinuba High boys water polo team has found wins to be far and few between, the Emperors continue to put their best foot forward.
“We are taking the right steps and the program is improving,” said coach Eric Guzman.
For example, in their first encounter against Hanford West on September 24, the Emperors were routed 18-4. This time around, DHS put up a fight at home before falling, 13-11.
The same turnaround took place two days prior when the Emperors lost to Exeter, 13-9. Back on September 21, the Monarchs cruised to a 16-3 win.
“We are turning heads and showing them we can compete with these schools once again,” said.
In their match against Hanford West, Cole Shott and Nick Rodriguez scored four goals apiece, while Nick Garza, Jacob Marroquin and Mateo Plascencia also scored a goal.
Against Exeter, Garza had a big night scoring five goals. Michael Vassylenko, Plasencia, Rodriguez and Shott rounded out the scoring. On October 2 in a match at Kingsburg, the host Vikings posted a 20-7 win. Garza recorded three goals and Plascenica added two
more. Diaz and Shott finished the night with a goal apiece.

The Cardinals started their rally taking the opening possession of the second half for an eight play, 51 yard drive capped off by a 33-yard run by quarterback Evan Lara on a 4th and four. Ismael Perez’s two- point conversion run made the score 23-15.
Minarets did not go away when quarterback Martin Urroz connected on a 21-yard touchdown strike to Jordan Rodkey but the PAT was blocked.
After each team traded punts, Orosi scored on a 56-yard pass play from Lara to Chris Huerta with 27 seconds left in the quarter, 29-21.
The Cardinals defense forced another Mustangs punt with 10 minutes and the offense wasted no time scoring as Lara and Huerta hooked up again on a play covering 81 yards, closing the deficit to, 29-27.
With momentum on Orosi’s side, the Mustangs scored with 8:09 on a short TD run by Zack Redman, pushing the lead back
to nine points, 36-27.
OHS marched down to the
23-yard line but on a 4th and 11, running back Jerry Huerta was dropped for a loss turning the ball over. The Cardinals held their ground forcing a three and out and caught a break when the Mustangs punted the ball 11 yards. Orosi needed two plays to score a TD on a 24-yard run by Huerta, but a failed two-point conversion made the score, 36-33 with 5:20.
In the first half, Minarets scored the game’s first TD with 2 minutes in the first quarter on a 24-yard pass play. The Cardinals ran two plays when they found the end zone on a 27-yard run by J. Huerta. Orosi was blanked in the second quarter before their second half rally.
