Boys finals on May 27, girls title match set for May 28

Sanger High's soccer teams entered this week just one win away from playing for Central Sec- tion Division II champi- onships.
The Apache boys, reigning DII Northern California champions — hosted No. 5 seed Red- wood the evening of May 25 in a section semifinal (results were unavail- able at press time). A win would advance Sanger (19-1, 9-1 North Yosemite League) to the title game Thursday, May 27, at Tom Flores Stadium (sched- uled for 6 p.m.) against either No. 2 Tulare Union or No. 3 Foothill.
The No. 2 seed Sanger High girls (10-4-3), 7-2-1 NYL) hosted third-seed- ed Highland High on May 26, and with a win would advance to the section finals on Friday, May 28, against either top-seeded Hanford or No. 4 seed Garces. If it's the Bullpups, the game would be at Hanford High (6 p.m.); if it's Garc- es the Apaches will host.

Prep baseball and softball seasons are winding down in prepa- ration for June postsea- son playoffs.
Reedley High, trying to keep pace with North Yosemite League-leading Fresno High, played McLane High on May 25 at Im- manuel Sports Complex (results were unavail- able at press time, then traveled to Fresno to play the Highlanders at 3:30 p.m. Thursday, May 27.
The Pirates (16[6[1, 9-2 NYL) blasted Roo- sevelt twice last week, winning 12-2 on May 18 at ISC. Mike Rios struck out eight to get the pitching win while Sergio Marquez, Matt Diaz and David Pimen- tel all had two hits and two runs batted in.
Reedley also blasted Roosevelt 15-1 in Fres- no on May 20, getting six runs in the opening inning and four more in the third. A day earlier, the Pirates breezed to an 11-1 win at Fowler.
The Pirates host their Senior Day Tues- day, June 1, against Sunnyside in a sched- uled 6:30 p.m. start. The game is tenta- tively scheduled at the school's newly renovated baseball dia- monds, although it will be moved if the playing field isn't ready.

With three more victories last week, the Reedley College men’s golf team improved to 21-0 on the season and 18-0 in Big 8 Confer- ence play.
The latest victory came on May 24 in Tracy. It was one of the closest of the season for Coach Scott Stark’s Tigers, who defeat-
ed Napa Valley by six strokes (374-380). Reedley also got past Modesto by 26 strokes and Fresno by 27.
Number six player Patrick Sperling was the tournament medalist with a two-par round of 70.
Other Reedley rounds in- cluded Beau Willett and Jarred Hernandez with a 73, Cole Ob- rigewitsch with a 77, Matt Frith
with an 81 and Noah Kozack with an 83.
On May 20, the Tigers shot a 370 at Turlock to win conference tournament number five by 31 shots over Napa, 33 over Fresno City and 53 over host Modesto.
Beau Willett and Cole Ob- rigowitsch each shot 70 to lead Reedley. Frith followed with a 71, Hernandez with a 74, Ruskofsfy an 85 and Kozack with an 86.
