SANGER HERALD 8A THURSDAY, DECEMBER 21, 2017
Merry Christmas from all your friends at the Sanger Herald and Mid Valley Publishing
Weather for Apache Country
Today 520/380
It's the first day of winter and it feels like it. A couple of extra blankets on the bed will feel good for the next few weeks.
Nighttime temperatures could dip below freezing. So, expect to hear the droning of nearby wind machines for the rest of 2017.
We'll have great weather for Christmas day. It will be mostly sunny and 62 degrees after a little morning fog.
We can anticipate a cold January, but only 1 degree colder than average, says the Old Farmer's Almanac.
Our next rain, according to the book founded in 1792 that some people still swear by when it comes to weather forecasting, is likely to be dur- ing the first week of January.
The almanac says it'll be a
little wetter than average in northern California and a little below average here in central California.
This cold weather prompts me to mention again that the Sanger Animal Shelter is in an old unheated metal building on the city yard at 333 North Avenue.
The shelter is in need of blankets or comforters the dogs can get under on these cold nights, said shelter vol- unteer Kim Reed.
Kim is having doggy sweat- ers made out of some of the blankets.
To get to the shelter take North Avenue east, toward the mountains, cross Newmark Avenue and follow the signs.
You can call animal control officer Mario Irazoqui at (559) 618-9071 to see what else is

needed.
While you're at the shelter
ask Mario or Kim how easy it is to adopt one of those very special dogs.
That would be a wonderful Christmas present for you and for your new best friend.
It's the best gift you could give one of the shelter dogs, a new home for a new year.
Yes, Virginia, there is a correct way to make a left turn at 7th and N streets
7th Street
If you're like most Sanger drivers, you may have wondered about the correct way to turn left at the intersection of 7th and N streets in downtown Sanger. That's where a large, lighted Christmas tree is parked right in the middle of the intersection. You're supposed to enter the intersection and drive just past the tree before making a very sharp left turn, being careful not to break any boughs or get tangled with any ornaments. You probably should also hope other drivers can figure out what you're doing before they run into you. Really! Ho ho ho! Merry Christmas.
