Fresno EOC seeks community partners to provide free summer meals to youth
VISIONS: Navarrete was encouraged by planning commission chairperson Johnny Perez

For some kids, the only healthy meal they may con- sume is a meal offered at school during the academic year. With summer around the corner, Fresno Economic Opportunities Commission (Fresno EOC) Food Services is getting ready to provide no-cost meals to youth in
the community aged 1-18 through its Summer Food Services Program.
Organizations where children (ages 1-18) gather together anytime during
the summer months of
June, July and August can qualify for no-cost nutritious breakfast, lunch, and supper meals. This includes sports teams, churches, summer camps, parks, libraries, com- munity centers or any other location. No registration or documentation is needed from families.
“We are looking to in- crease the number of sites we provide healthy meals to in order for more youth in our community to have ac- cess to this much needed nu- trition,” says Morgan Terry, Fresno EOC Food Services Director. She encourages community groups to call (559) 266-3663 to inquire about becoming a distribu- tion site.
“We cannot do this important work alone; we need community volunteers to come serve children. We will train you, provide you all tools and support, we just need you to be willing to hang out with some children and have fun,” says Terry. If you’re interested in volun- teering, please call (559) 266- 3663. Volunteers spend 2-3 hours per week day serving breakfast and lunch to chil- dren in community locations, such as parks.

walks was the focus of a presentation which declared, "It is very difficult for people to walk in certain areas of Sanger due to the damaged sidewalks ... sidewalk dam- ages create a dangerous environment for youth and adults. One must walk on the road due to the heavy cracks , dramatic buckled lanes or vanishing sidewalks which leads to more safety hazards.
Navarrete expressed frus- tration over not being given permission to carry a out a proposal he had presented to the city months ago to paint traffic boxes associated with traffic signal lights. Dr. Jerry Valadez, SAM Academy CEO,
and planning commission chairperson Johnny Perez praised Navarrete's concept and urged him to figure out the steps necessary to turn it into a reality.
The student presentations were a joint project carried out with SAM Academy and county health education spe- cialist Michael Flores. Keith Woodcock introduced and explained the project to the commission.
