Ed Friesen
May 31, 1931 - July 21, 2020
Ed was born on May 31, 1931 to Jake and Tena Friesen in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada.
He lived in nearby Dalmeny until the age of 15. In 1946 his parents decided to immigrate to the United States, speci cally to Fres- no, California where they had relatives and where there were more opportuni- ties for employment. He loved everything about the United States of America
and on February 8, 1965 was the rst of his family to become an American citizen.
On January 12, 1952 he married Thelma Pauls of Reed- ley. Together they raised four children, of which he was most proud. He loved his family dearly and was known as ‘Papa Ed’ to his grandchildren and great grandchildren. Ed’s interest in cars started early on in his life. For over 55 years, he worked in the car business. In 1955, he along with his brother Irvin, owned and operated Sierra Motor Sales on the ‘main drag’ in Fresno, Belmont Ave- nue. After selling the business, he worked for dealerships in Fresno, Hanford and Reedley. In 1988 he decided
to go into business for himself as an auto wholesaler, which he enjoyed most of all. He was known throughout the Central Valley as ‘the gentleman of car dealers’ for his honesty and integrity. He knew no stranger and was always happy to strike up a conversation and include one of his corny jokes.
Ed accepted Christ as a teenager and was baptized in the San Joaquin River. He attended Mennonite churches for most of his life, most recently the Reedley MB Church. He served the Lord in many capacities over the years......as an usher, treasurer, deacon and Sunday school teacher. He loved the Lord and his church family.
Ed peacefully entered heaven on July 21, 2020. He is sur- vived by his wife of 68 years, Thelma Friesen of Reedley, his children, Philip and wife Glenda of Clovis, Kenneth and wife Gwynn of Fresno, Brian and wife Marilyn of Fresno and Janice Sanders and husband Keith of Sanger, nine grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren. He
is also survived by two brothers, Harold of Martinez and Irvin of Clovis and a sister, Verna Neufeld of Reedley. Ed is predeceased by his parents, sister Ethel Ratzlaff and granddaughter Katie Friesen.
Private services have been held.
