Sentinel staff
The Dinuba High football team released its 2019 schedule as the Emperors will have a new coach at the helm, Carlos Barajas.
Dinuba will open its season with a home game against Porterville on Aug. 23 and face Redwood on Aug. 30 in Groppetti Stadium. That game will be an early season clash as former DHS head coach Kevin Scharton will oppose the Emperors as Redwood’s head coach.
The following week, Dinuba will host Reedley on Friday, Sept. 6, before hitting the road for two marquee games against El Diamante and Edison.
Central Sequoia League play begins on Oct. 4 as Central Valley Christian comes to town. The Emperors will follow up with another home game against rival Selma on Oct. 11. Dinuba will then have a road game against Kingsburg on Oct. 18 before closing out the season at home versus Hanford West on Nov. 1.

A pair of Dinuba High soccer players will take part in the East-West All-star soccer match next month.
Jorge Duran and Hilde Chavez will get to play in the 11th annual event held at 6 p.m. on June 22 at Lindsay High School. This will be a marquee match for the players.
Benjamin Orozco, organizer of the event, said the all-star matches is unique for the players.
“We open it up for everybody,” said Orozco. “We do have seniors and underclassman will also get a chance to play.”
Orozco said the all-star game is scheduled in the middle of June to avoid any conflicts with school.
“We have held it the third week of June the past seven years and we’ve never had an issue with it.”
The all-star game will have players from Fresno and Bakersfield as well as other Valley communities.
