Joshua Johnson, who has been a field training officer with Selma PD, was sworn in Tuesday morning as a Sanger police sergeant.
"He's filling the position left vacant by the recent retirement of Sgt. Steve Gaucin," said Sanger police chief Silver Rodriguez.
Fowler police chief Rudy Alcaraz who served with Johnson on the Selma police force before he moved to Fowler attended the cer- emony along with about a dozen of Johnson's family and friends.
"Johnson was born in Mil- waukee, grew up in Selma,
attended Immanuel High School in Reedley, earned a BA degree in criminal justice management from Union Institute and University and graduated from the College of the Sequoias Police Acad- emy in 2004, said Rodriguez.
"The sergeant position
is probably the most fun
job on a police force," said Rodriguez. "Sergeants drive the bus, they make decisions in the field and call the plays, like a quarterback. They
are trainers, teachers and coaches."
