Reedley College baseball goes into this week’s three- game series with the College of the Sequoias in second place in the Central Valley Conference after one win last week over Porterville College.
Reedley took a conference record of 5-3 and an overall record of 14-5 into a March 15 contest in Visalia with the COS Giants. The series con- tinued on Thursday, March 17, in Reedley at 2 p.m. before concluding at 1 p.m. Saturday, March 19, in Visalia.
The Tigers fell two games behind the 5-1 Fresno City Col- lege Rams in the loss column after a 5-3 loss to a 3-18 Por- terville College Pirate squad in Reedley on March 12.
victory over the Pirates on March 8, Reedley came from behind to take a 17-12 lead over Porterville on March 10 before the game was suspend- ed due to darkness in the top of the ninth inning. The con- test will be completed when Reedley returns to Porterville on April 21.
In the win over Porterville, Ryan Garza and three reliev- ers combined to hold the Pi- rates to two hits and one run. Garza struck out eight and six innings.
At the plate, Kobe Kropf led a 10-hit attack with three singles and a double while Justin Tiger had two doubles, a single and drove in three runs.
In the suspended game, Roman Rosales homered and drove in three runs for Reed- ley while Orin Hirschkorn
had two doubles, a single and drove in two runs. Nilen Peo- ple’s and Jordan Smith each contributed two hits.
Kropf and Smith each had two hits in the March 12 loss.
Softball wins lone CVC matchup
The Reedley College soft- ball Tigers won their Central Valley Conference contest last week, but had their problems in a non-conference double- header on March 12.
Coach Amy Bailey’s Lady Tigers took a 1-1 CVC record and an overall record of 7-9 into a scheduled doubleheader with Taft College on March 15. On Sunday, March 20, Reedley travels to San Joaquin Delta in Stockton for a non-conference noon doubleheader with the Mustangs.
Reedley defeated College of the Sequoias 5-2 on March 10 before suffering non-con- ference losses to 14th-ranked Bakersfield 9-0 and to Mon- terey Peninsula 10-1 on March 12 in Reedley. Both games were called after five innings.
The Lady Tigers jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning against Sequoias and never looked back. Ellie Mon- talvo walked on five pitches before winning pitcher An- nabelle Buchanan singled. Both runners moved up on a groundout by Seanna Esquivel before scoring on a single by Jordynn Acevedo. After Ace- vedo stole second, she scored as Ava Trevino reached sec- ond on a strikeout and a wild pitch.
Reedley’s final two runs scored on a sacrifice fly by Trevino, which scored Esquiv-
el (who led off the fifth with a double) and a run scoring single by Makaylah Johnson.
On the mound, Buchanan scattered six hits and struck out two.
But Saturday was a differ- ent story. Bakersfield’s Rylee Price hit Buchanan’s seventh pitch of the game over the left field fence for a two-run hom- er. The Renegades scored six runs in the fifth, all after two were out.
Reedley’s only run of the day came in the bottom of the first after Monterey Peninsula had scored three times in the top of the inning. Singles by Montalvo and Buchanan (who had three of Reedley’s five hits in the game) combined with an error to score the Ti- gers’ lone run.
MPC finished with 11 hits off Buchanan and Johnson.

Senior Shelsie Castel delivered the big blow of the Lady Apaches' eight-hit attack with a grand slam home run in the fourth. Sophomore Jayden Herrera finished 2-for-3 with three runs scored and two runs knocked in.
Junior Layla Torres bottled up the Pirates with a three-hit five- inning complete game, striking out seven.
