"I told [the players] we had a bit of a hangover, we played a a pretty emotional game the night before," coach Matt Wilkinson said. "That Strath- more game was probably the best game we've played all year. It seemed we controlled them most of the game. But this is a young group, and they don't have a lot of experience being in competitive games like that.
"Disappointing as it was, I was super proud and excited with how we played against a team like that."
Led by senior Clare Mc- Gahan's nine points and fresh- man Miah Paz's seven points, the Pirates built a 30-22 lead at the break. But sophomore guard Soto score 30 of her tournament-best 43 points in the second half — 16 in the third quarter – as the Spar- tans (9-3) regained the lead and hung on down the stretch.
Junior center Madison Haney led Reedley on the night with 14 points while Paz finished with 12. The fresh- man went on to be named to the all-tournament team af- ter scoring 18 points in the loss to Dinuba and 15 points in a 56-51 opening round win over Exeter on Dec. 19. That avenged an earlier loss to the Monarchs the previous week at the Hoover Invitational tourney in Fresno.

Big win for Immanuel helps determine seeding
The Immanuel High Eagles' 3-2 win over Fres- no Christian on Dec. 19 was important in terms of section playoff seeding lat- er in the season, according to school officials. The one- goal triumph at Immanuel Sports Complex improved the Eagles' season record to 7-4-3.
