The Sanger Animal Shel- ter is full of scared dogs who will spend this Christmas
in a cold kennel wondering why they were abandoned by their humans.
"Sarah" our featured Pet
of the Week was abandoned along with her puppies in an orchard near the shelter. Ani- mal Control Officer Mario Irazoqui has found three pup- pies so far and is checking to see if there are any more.
Sarah is a very loving 3 year old brindle pitbull who wants constant reassuring hugs from volunteer coordi- nator Kim Reed.
Other dogs spending their Christmas at the shelter are:
• Mama, another young,
sweet pitbull lady who had just had a litter and was ap- parently abandoned by the police station.
• Bear, who is about 8 years old, a shepherd mix. He's already up to date on shots, neutered and potty trained. He prefers people to dogs.
• Adak, a silly, playful, feisty big husky puppy, who was picked up while wander- ing in the Greenwood/Holt area.
• Queenie, a 3 year old pitbull who loves water. She's up to date with shots and spayed.
• Cowboy, a 3 year old boxer/pitbull/pug mix who loves laps and hugs.
And several more who have just arrived and are be-
ing processed.
Call Mario at (559) 618-
9071 or message the Sanger Animal Shelter Facebook page and leave your email address to find about the adoption process.
Let Mario know if you're able to provide a tempo-
rary foster home for any of the shelter dogs or if you
are able to donate a warm blanket, doggy sweater or bed because it gets cold inside the metal building that serves as the shelter on the city yard on North Avenue.
Fostering or adopting is critical right now. The shel- ter is full. Please help.

be restricted to Measure S hired personnel." The grand jury comment was in its "Recommendations" section, which means it's just that, a recommendation, not a demand and, because it's a civil not a criminal grand jury, there are no penalties for not following its recommendation. That is what the city council chose to do.
Contract renewed
The City of Sanger will pay the chamber of commerce $60,000 a year for the next two fiscal years for "professional services." The city council voted unanimously to renew a con- tract with the chamber that was scheduled to expire on June 30.
City budget
Anyone who doubts that Sanger believes in public safety should take a look at the budget for fiscal year 2018-2019. More than two-thirds of the general fund expenses for the next fiscal year are created by the police, fire and ambulance departments. The $7.5 million combined total of the departments is more than 67 percent of the $12.7 million budget. The general fund is a part of a larger proposed $46.5 million overall budget for the next fiscal year which starts on July 1.
The spending plan for the balanced general fund budget proj- ects a surplus, while the overall budget anticipates a deficit because of anticipated work on longstanding sewer and water issues.
Next week the Herald will review stories from July-Decem- ber of 2018.
Uni-Rex was in the top 2 percent at the world robotics championship
SANGER HERALD 8A THURSDAY, DECEMBER 27. 2018
Sanger High School's robotics team Uni-Rex members are pictured relaxing after competing in the world robotics championships in Houston in April. The team had an 8-2 record and was ranked sixth in its division. There were more than 3,600 robotics teams competing worldwide, only 404 made it to the world championships. Those 404 teams were split into six divisions. By ranking sixth in its division, the Sanger High team ranked in the top 36 teams at the event. That meant that Sanger placed in the top 2 percent of teams worldwide. Top row, L-R, Joseph Phrachanhsay, Austin Tuell, Kylee Tamez, Leslie Jimenez, Martin Gonzalez, Joshua Olsson, Karissa Westbury and Bryant Louie. Middle row, Jon Stokes, Mitch Stokes, Mike Stokes, Nick Marshall, Madison Haugland, Gabriela Martinez, Miguel Sanchez, David Gonzalez, Skylar McGee, Daniellyse Moreno, Alexander Kimzey, Ethan Schletewitz and Juan Heredia.
