Dinuba High School and Dinuba Unified School Dis- trict officials have submitted a letter of appeal to the CIF Central Section to reconsider an initial proposal by the sec- tion to shift the school's athlet- ic affiliation from the Central Sequoia League to the East Yosemite League effective the next school year.
The school and district sent a letter to the Central Section on Jan. 13, which section officers reviewed during a Jan. 20 meeting. The section is planning to review all letters of appeal for prospective changes to the league realignment pro- posal, which then will be pre- sented as a first reading item at a special Board of Manag- ers meeting scheduled for

Dinuba High football players take the field before a 2019 game against Reedley. Dinuba school and district officials have written a letter appealing against a proposed move to the East Yosemite League.
DHS Principal Andrew Popp and DHS Athletic Director John Freitas — gave its rea- son for wishing to stay in the CSL and said that EYL/WYL schools have voted to oppose the original agreement of a competitive conference.
"Our proposal to stay in the CSL would greatly minimize travel costs while maintain- ing longtime rivalries with Selma and Kingsburg, who have always been in favor of Dinuba staying in the CSL," the letter read. Officials also cited transportation costs, gate receipts and and substi- tute teacher cost all were far more favorable keeping the Emperors' athletic program aligned to the ESL.
Dinuba officials offered a counter-proposal where the school would remain part of an 11-member CSL and the East and West Yosemite League's would instead be an 11-school conference. Section officials are in the process of reviewing all submitted let- ters of appeal from a number of section schools.
The Times will report on more potential realignment news in future issues.
Wednesday, March 24. Section officers then would vote on approval of the re- alignment proposal on Tues- day, April 20. The newly-re- aligned leagues would go into effect for the 2021-2022 school
year.
Dinuba, which has a long-
time membership in the CSL along with Immanuel, Exeter,
Central Valley Christian, Ex- eter, Hanford West, Imman- uel, Kingsburg and Selma, is slated to move to the East Yo- semite League/West Yosemite League Conference as part of the section's initial realign- ment proposal from back in October.
Other EYL schools in that setup are Tulare Union, Tu-
lare Western, Mission Oak, Porterville and Monache. The league would combine with current WYL schools to form a 12-member confer- ence with cross-league com- petition.

Central Section releases 'recommended start by' dates for Season 1 sports
MVT Staff Report
California high schools can begin ar- ranging schedules for a rescheduled and reduced 2021 athletics season for
qualifying sports, now that Gov. Gavin Newsom has removed all stay-at- home orders.
On Jan. 20, the Cali- fornia Interscholastic Federation's Central
Section announced ten- tative "recommended start by" schedule of dates for schools' athlet- ic programs competing in the revised Season 1 to have their first com- petitive action. For foot- ball, the recommended "start by" date is Friday,
March 26.
Other "Season 1"
sports' revised "start by" dates for competition are Monday, Feb. 22, for girls volleyball and water polo and Monday, March 1, for cross country.
Other notable "start by" dates are Monday,
April 26, for wrestling and swimming-diving; Thursday, April 29, for basketball; and Thurs- day, May 6, for baseball and softball.
With the lifting of state stay-at-home or- ders, practices and games/matches for Sea-
son 1 sports will be ap- proved as soon as allow- able under California Department of Health Guidelines. The "start by" dates mean teams must begin play at that time in order to accommodate four weeks of competi- tion.
