'Honoring Sanger' announces its 2018 awards
Honoring Sanger
press release
Honoring Sanger is a new non-profit organization that will be joining together with Sanger’s citizens, companies and other organizations on a number of projects.
The American Legion will host Honoring Sanger’s first event at 6 p.m. on May 24.
Honoring Sanger will in- troduce its projects designed to recognize and honor those who have made positive con- tributions to the city and its residents.
Honoring Sanger and the American Legion will partner on an annual project called “Quilts for our Heroes."
Each year during the Veterans Parade in Novem- ber the American Legion,
Patricia Merk
AMVETS and VFW will each honor a local veteran with specially designed quilt.
Adam Albrecht, Honoring Sanger president/CEO, will design and create the quilts.
The only requirement is that the honorees must live or must have been born in Sanger.
In mid-September Honor- ing Sanger and the Golden Living Center will honor all 99 residents at the facility with a blanket for the “Cov- ered with Love” project.
Golden Living Center's Heidi Setty said the residents need hospital socks and if the budget is able, Honoring Sanger will also purchase and donate those.
The citizens of Sanger can get involved by supporting
Honoring Sanger with dona- tions of money and time and by spreading the word that Honoring Sanger is a new and upcoming organization in Sanger.
Honoring Sanger's board will always be looking for new ideas for new projects.
Honoring Sanger will need a number of volunteers to help pass out blankets to the residents at the Golden Liv- ing Center.
Albrecht will be unveil- ing Honoring Sanger’s logo and motto at the American Legion event, “Honoring Sanger – Where Sanger Comes Together Like Fam- ily."
Every year up to 10 Sanger residents will be hon- ored in five categories.
All awards will be given to persons who have lived, worked or volunteered within the City of Sanger.
Anyone may submit a nomination for the Honoring Sanger Awards for May 2019. Nomination letters should be emailed to honoringsanger@ yahoo.com.
• Legend Award: Only
one person each year will
be honored with the Legend Award. It will be given to someone who has lived, worked or volunteered in the City of Sanger for 20 years or more. This person must have a positive image and an obvious love for Sanger. The person would be considered an ambassador of the City of Sanger.
Honoring Sanger’s Legend
Award for 2018 will be an- nounced at the American Legion event on May 24.
• Spotlight Award: One or two people every year will be honored with the Spotlight Award. The Spotlight Award will be given to someone
who stands out for doing something to shine a light on Sanger. It may be a child or an adult who lives, works or volunteers in Sanger. It will be someone with a positive image who gives back to
the community and does not seek recognition. Honoring Sanger’s Spotlight Awards for 2018 will go to Matt Navo and Chieko Delgado.
• Golden Heart Award: One or two people every year will be honored with the Golden Heart Award. It
will go to someone who has lived, worked or volunteered in Sanger for at least five years. It will be someone who has blessed a number of citi- zen’s in different ways. The recipient/s may be a part of an organization that reaches out in time of need.

Joyce Tanimoto Tuck was born on October 26, 1943 in the Japanese-American internment camp at Gila River, AZ to Takuichi and Kiyomi Tanimoto. She passed away on May 5, 2018 in Clovis, CA from complications related to cancer.
She grew up in Sanger, CA, and graduated as salutato- rian from Sanger High School in 1961. She was also one of the few women to graduate with a B. S. degree in chem- istry at the University of California, Berkeley.
She married Burnis (Gene) Tuck in 1965, and they raised two daughters, Anna and Laura, in Oakland, CA; Portland, OR; and Port Angeles, WA. Joyce worked as a chemist for several years in Port An- geles, and then became an award-winning watercolor art- ist. She enjoyed painting outdoors on location and cap- tured the beauty and meaning of the local landscapes she loved so much.
Joyce will be sorely missed by her husband and two daughters, as well as her son-in-law, Felice Scala, and grandson, Giorgio Scala. She is also survived by her sib- lings George Tanimoto of Porterville, CA; Betty Hishida of Fresno, CA; and Marilyn Oishi of Honolulu, HI. She was preceded in death by her parents and siblings Gladys Yo- shida of Denver, CO and Frank Tanimoto of Sanger, CA.
