Straders Celebrate 79th Wedding Anniversary
Carroll & Jerry Strader
MAY 16, 1942 - MAY 16, 2021
World War II Veteran, Carroll Strader and wife Geraldine are celebrating their 79th wedding anniversary. They married May 16, 1942. Both were born & raised in Iowa. They married in Marion, Arkansas, after “Jerry’s” high school graduation, on Carroll’s way to serving his country in the U.S. Navy. Jerry went on to Washington D.C. to serve in the offices of the FBI during the war.
Carroll came home a WWII Veteran and later became a meat cutter. The couple moved their young family from Iowa to California in the 1950’s and Carroll went to work as a Meat Dept. Manager for Justesen’s Grocery Stores; and later for Food Bank Stores. During this time they lived in Wasco, Shafter, Sanger and finally, Reedley where they permanently settled.
Carroll worked for Food Bank until he and his friend partnered and bought the Food Bank Store in Dinuba. They called it Shop & Save Grocery and ran it until their building lease expired 7 years later. Carroll then went to work for New Holland Mfg. where he worked until his retirement.
Jerry was a homemaker while their children were young. Later, she loved working part time at George’s Market, until she was hired as Secretary to the Reedley College Librarian, where she worked until she retired. They moved to Arizona in 1992; traveled the U.S and returned to live at Sierra View Homes in Reedley in 2008.
The Straders have 4 children; Karen Durham & Diana Gaither (Chuck) of Reedley; Drake Strader (Teri) of Visalia; and Deby Kirby (deceased) formerly of Mississippi; 12 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.
