A recent survey by schools.com listed Reedley College as the number two ranked community college in California.
The college was the lone Central Valley two-year school south of Stockton ranked in the top 10 by the website, which collected data from the National Center for Education Statistics along with the California Commu- nity Colleges Chancellor’s Office, the University of Cal- ifornia system and California State University system.

Jessie Hernandez
Jessie Hernandez of Reedley died Dec. 26 in Fresno. She was 81.
Mrs. Hernandez owned and operated The Flower Basket in Orange Cove.
She is survived by her husband, one son, one daughter, her mother, five brothers, two sisters, five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Services were held Jan. 4 at the new St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church in Reedley.

Norman Herrold
Norman Lee Herrold of Dinuba died Jan. 13 in Visa- lia. He was 83.
Mr. Herrold was the CEO for Simas Bros. gas stations.
He is survived by one son, four daughters, two sisters, 15 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
A graveside service will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday, Jan. 19, at Smith Mountain Cemetery in Dinuba.
The First Mennonite Church in Reedley held its annual Mennonite Women’s Borscht Supper on Jan. 10 in the church’s Fellowship Hall. About 200 people attended the event, dining in or taking home bowls of the beetroot-based soup that originated in the Ukraine. Church officials said the annual supper dates back to the early 1980s. Funds raised will benefit Mission Network partner Mary Raber, who teaches at several seminaries in the Ukraine.

Elaine Cordell Shultz Brisendine, 69 passed away peacefully on December
20, 2017 surrounded by family a er a 22 year battle with cancer. She lived a
life dedicated to educating others and making everyone who she came into contact with feel welcomed, loved and important. Her sel ess actions have transcended generations in teaching
over 1200 students through her over 40 year teaching career. She was born in Los Angeles, CA. on April 3,
1948 to Herbert and Letha Shultz. She grew up on Alta and Parlier Ave. in Reedley on Blossom Trail on a 40 acre ranch. Graduated from Reedley High School. She was preceded in death by her husband of 41 years Melvin Lee Brisendine, her parents Herbert and Letha Cordell Shultz of Reedley, CA. She leaves behind a legacy of four children; Lisa (Patrick) Vaughn, Robert (Tricia) Brisendine, Daniel (Holly) Brisendine, David (Sara) Brisendine and ten grandchildren; Savannah, Taylor, Olivia, Reagan, Addison, Jackson, Blake, Allie, Zack and Greyson. Also survived by her twin sister Elizabeth (Edwin) Oeser, older sister Donna (Frank) Cotton and countless students, friends, cousins, nieces and nephews that loved her. A Celebration of Life Services will be held in Boulder City, Nevada at the Veterans Memorial Cemetery 1900 Veterans Memorial Dr. Boulder City, NV 89005 on Friday, January 26th where she will be laid to rest with the love of her life. Services will be held in the Chapel prompt from 12:40 - 1:20 pm and the family invites all those interested in attending.

Paul A Mitchell, who for many years was “the voice” for Reedley High School, and College sporting events, has
passed at the age of 87 (Born Oct. 9th 1930, and passed Jan. 13th 2018). As a teacher, coach, and public-address announcer he touched so very many lives throughout his lifetime, in his own, unique, inspirational way. He is preceded in death by his rst love, Joyce, and Brothers Lee and Eddie. Paul is survived by his wife Madeleine, sister Monta, daughter Susan, son’s Andy, Je , and Dan; grand children Michael, Matthew, Sarah, John, Christian, Sean, Jordan, Ryan, and Andrew; and 5 great grandchildren. Paul’s favorite saying these past few months was: “onwards & upwards! ‘because it covers so much ground’”.
Services are pending and will be held at the Unitarian Church of Fresno.

Chuck graduated from Orosi High School in 1969. Chuck started his career in construction with Champion Mobile Homes, then moved to Paul Fidler Construction for 10 years. Chuck started his own Remodeling business about thirty years ago.
Chuck is well known for his handle bar mustache, bow legs and brown stetson hat. But, we can’t forget his sense of humor.
After Chuck retired, his hobbies included camping, shing and helping people repair mobile homes.
Chuck was preceded in death by his parents Chuck and Della Wallace and his younger brother Patrick Wallace.
He is survived by his wife Katherine, daughters: Melissa and Krista Wallace; and many grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He is also survived by three siblings Danny (Pam) Denise, and Angel (Jeff).
