Electrical issue sparks fire, damages unoccupied house
A minivan is partially submerged in a shallow canal at the southeast corner of Road 80 (Alta Avenue) and Avenue 432 (Floral Avenue) just north of Dinuba after it was hit from behind by another vehicle, left, while turning the corner the morning of May 13.
Two-vehicle accident on May 13 sends minivan into shallow canal
Staff Report
A late-night fire that broke out in an unoccupied house in north Reedley caused about $100,000 in damage to the single-family structure.
Just after 11 p.m., Reed- ley firefighters received a greater alarm call to the 1300 block of North Birch Avenue for a report of a house on fire. Upon arrival, fire crews discovered smoke and flames coming from the roof of the residence. Flames were significantly burning in the attic area.
The Reedley Fire De- partment stated in a news release that firefighters made an aggressive and well-coordinated attack to suppress the flames. The fire was in full-control in less than 35 minutes.
No injuries were report- ed.
Investigation continued into the cause of the fire, but preliminary reports believe an electrical issue ignited the fire.
Engine 131 from Reed- ley Fire and 14 firefight- ers responded to the blaze. Assisting were two engines and fire crews from Fresno County Fire. The call had been reported by a passerby who saw smoke and flames coming from the residence.

Reedley Fire crews look toward the unoccupied house before battling flames from the fire that started in the attic area. Fire officials suspect the blaze started because of an electrical issue.
While the property loss was estimated at $100,000, more tab $150,000 in prop-
erty value was saved. The house was not occupied and no residents were displaced.
No injuries among 5 people involved
Staff Report
No one was injured in a two-vehicle accident north of Dinuba on May 13 that sent a minivan into a shallow dirt canal.
The crash occurred shortly before 9:45 a.m. right at the Fresno-Tulare County line at the intersection of Alta Avenue (Road 80 in Tulare
County) and Floral Avenue (Avenue 432). It involved a silver Toyota Highlander minivan and white sports utility vehicle.
According to Dinuba po- lice at the scene (California Highway Patrol officials had yet to arrive), the minivan — carrying an elderly couple from Tulare and their son who was driving— slowed to turn right off Alta onto Floral when a Dinuba woman driv- ing her young baby daugh- ter quickly came up behind the minivan and attempt to
swerve around the vehicle. It struck the right rear of the turning minivan, sending it out of control and into the dirt canal with a flow of two to three feet of water.
The trio from Tulare, who were headed to Smith Mountain Cemetery to at- tend a graveside service, were uninjured after being checked out by emergency personnel. The woman and her baby daughter also were uninjured. The accident con- tinued to be under investiga- tion by the CHP.
