Staff Report
Reedley police arrested three male teenagers March 8 after a vehicle driven by one of them led police on a brief pursuit along multiple streets from the northern part of the city to south of downtown.
No one was injured in the seven-minute incident, which began just before 5 p.m. near Adventist Medical Center and at 16th and F Streets at 5:05 p.m., according to Reedley po- lice Sgt. Todd Lowery. Two of the suspects — the 17-year-old driver and a 15-year-old pas- senger — were transported to the Juvenile Justice Center in Fresno while another 17-year- old passenger was not charged by police.
The driver faced charges of felony pursuit and assault with a deadly weapon on an officer for driving at one of the vehicles. Lowery said the 15-year-old passenger was sitting in an area of the car where a bag of methamphet- amine was found. Because of this he was charged with drug possession, Lowery said.
Lowery said nearby T.L. Reed School briefly was placed on lockdown status when the pursuit started. Students and teachers in the afterschool program were on campus at the time.
Police initially responded to a witness report of a man dressed in red gang colors on a bicycle near the Reed- ley Birthing Center and ges- turing to his waistband as if he had a gun, according to
Lowery. Investigating offi- cers saw a 2002 silver model Chevrolet in the nearby park- ing lot with expired tags. The juvenile driving the car was recognized by an officer as a suspected Norteño gang affili- ate, and officers attempted to contact the occupants.
The car drove at one of the police vehicles attempt- ing to hit it, Lowery said, and a pursuit began. The suspect drove north to East Parlier Avenue and then east to Citi- zens Park before turning south on North Thompson Av- enue. The vehicle led police west on Cypress back toward the hospital, then through neighborhoods and back east before turning south on Frankwood Avenue.
Lowery said the vehicle ran a red light at Frankwood and Manning avenues, turned
onto 10th Street and then south on D Street. The pursuit con- tinued to 11th Street, where the Chevy turned west and then south on F Street. At 16th Street, the car went west to G Street and then back north before pulling into an alley to head east toward F Street.
Lowery, driving one of the pursuing vehicles, pulled in front of the alley at F Street to block off the vehicle, which collided with the police ve- hicle’s right front fender and became disabled. Police then took the three juveniles into custody.
No weapons were found in the car. Lowery said the 17-year-old passenger had no outstanding warrants and was released to his family. All three suspects were believed to be associates to the Norteño gang.

and values that were important to my dad and my family.”
Quiring said part of those values is in giving back, which in this case was the donation to the historical so- ciety. He presented a check to Anthony Jewell, who rep- resented the society.
“We would like to thank you very much for this con- tribution which will do great things for us in our special projects. We really appreciate it,” Jewell said.
Zieba and Mayor Anita Betancourt both read from the formal proclamation to Quir- ing. The proclamation cited how the company employs about 100 people and exceeds
annual sales of $115 million. After the formal procla- mation, the company showed
meeting attendees a slide pre- sentation detailing Quiring Corporation’s history.
