Reedley returns to action Thursday, Dec. 12, with a 5 p.m. game against Firebaugh High in the opening round of the three-day Liberty Var- sity Boys Tournament in Madera Ranchos, The Pi- rates play either Yosemite or Coalinga at 3:30 (conso- lation) or 6:30 (semifinal) p.m. on Friday, Dec. 13. Four games take place Saturday, Dec. 14, with the championship game set for 2:30 p.m.

tana and JJ Martinez did well in their respective weight classes.
Carrasco (106) lost in the finals to Buchanan’s Ray Ray Harris, 13-2. Wright said Carrasco is hav- ing a great start to his freshman year as he posts a 7-1 record. Quintana, who is also 7-1, was 2nd at 120 falling to Ray Lopez of Buchanan.
Martinez (195) was fourth place and looking to improve, according to Wright.
“He placed as expected,” Wright said. “We re- ally though he could’ve done better but he lost to the same guy twice in two very close matches. He is one of the hardest workers and we are confident he will improve.”
At 120, Javier Castro posted a 4-2 mark for sev- enth place. The senior is now 8-2 overall and will look to improve as the season moves along.
“He has improved and usually finishes the sea- son strong, so we will expect Javier to continue to improve and get back to the state tournament this year,” Wright said.
Junior Matt Montalvo went 4-2 but did not place at 126, according to Wright.
Senior Braulio Torres was 1-2 at 182 while junior Rodrigo Calvillo was 0-2 at 182 and freshman Trent Barnes was 0-2 at 145.
Buchanan won the team crown with 240 points followed by Pittman (215), Frontier (190) and Lem- oore was fifth with 144.5.
In their season opener at the Lemoore Duals on Nov. 30, the varsity boys team went 2-2 and placed 4th. Dinuba defeated Reedley (55-25) and Kerman (45-18) while losing to Lemoore (48-36) and Paso Robles (36-35).
The junior varsity team placed 2nd as they beat Kerman (47-36) and Sierra Pacific (60-18) before dropping a 47-30 decision to Lemoore.
Also on Nov. 30 at the Last Girl Standing tourna- ment in Lemoore, Pricilla Cardenas went 2-2 at 137. Cardenas lost her opening match to Tyre Novella of Central, 4-2, before bouncing back with consecutive wins over Jocelyn Barrera of Reedley and Aure- lia McCormack of Redwood. Cardenas eventually lost her final match of the day to Sanger’s Mikayla Dupont.
At 126, Esquivel went 1-2 and Devora was 0-2.
Noah Cortez
DINUBA HIGH SCHOOL WRESTLING
Dinuba High wrestler Noah Cortez is named Athlete of the Week after the senior captured the 152 pound division at the 11th Annual Chukchansi Invitational. Cortez, a Cal Poly wrestling signee, went 5-0 including a 5-2 decision over Buchanan's Logan Gioffre in the  nale.

Leading the way for the Lady Apaches were Roth and Chapa. Roth fin- ished with 13 points while Chapa finished with 10.
On Dec. 6, the La- dy Apaches faced off against Selma in a tightly contested matchup. Host Selma, who is one divi- sion higher than Sanger at Div. 2, outscored the Lady Apaches by only one point in each of the first two quarters to take a 26-24 lead into halftime. However, the Lady Apaches struggled offensively in the third quarter, scoring only two points to allow the Lady Bears to increase their lead to seven and go on
to a 49-42 victory.

for Sanger were Roth, with 17 points, and Her- rera, who finished with 16 points.
Sanger, however, re- bounded on Saturday against Div. 4’s Kerman High with a 61-46 victory. Roth, Herrera and Cha- pa again finished with double-digit points in the Lady Apaches’ win, scor- ing 12, 17 and 12 points respectively.
The Lady Apach- es hosted Sierra High School on Tuesday, Dec. 10. Results to that game were not available at press time.
Sanger will be travel- ing to Atascadero on Sat- urday for the Coast vs. Valley Tournament.
The team will travel to Fresno on Tuesday, Dec. 17, to take on Roosevelt High. The return home on Wednesday when they host Redwood High.

Sanger High’s Luke Dil- lon scored 25 points to lead the Apache’s in their 75-66 win over Roosevelt High on Dec. 4. The ju- nior point guard also had six assists and three steals.
Also scoring in double digits in Sanger’s win over the Rough Riders were sophomore Jon Dillon, with 20
points, and freshman Kaleb Cole, with 15. J. Dillon also led the team in rebounds and steals with seven and 5, respectively.
The Apaches outscored Roo- sevelt in the first two quarters to take a 39-31 lead at halftime. Though the Rough Riders were able to draw to within four points by the end of the third quarter (51- 47), Sanger was able to pull away in
the fourth quarter to earn the win. The Sanger High boys’ varsity basketball team will have one more game on Dec. 14 before leaving for Hawaii for the Lahainaluna Classic in Maui. The Apaches will host Paso Robles on Saturday. The Bearcats enter Saturday’s game with a 5-2
record.

Lady Emps improve to 4-2 with win over Shafter

A fast start by the Dinuba High girls basketball team paved the way for a 42-32 non-league win over Shafter High on Monday night.
The Lady Emperors jumped out to a 24-9 first half lead and never looked back as they improved to 4-2
overall.

scored 11 points and Kailey Lopez added 10 to lead DHS.
Dinuba opened Central Sequoia League play late Tuesday night at Hanford West. The Lady Emperors will be back in action on Dec. 18 as
they take on Lemoore at 8 p.m. as part of the Dinuba-Orosi Holiday Classic. There are 24 teams par- ticipating in the tournament with games being played at Dinuba, Orosi and Immanuel High. The championship game will be held at 6 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 21 at DHS.
