Traffic was backed up for hours on Reed Avenue near Adams Avenue fol- lowing a traffic collision that killed a 57-year-old man, later identified as Gerald Richardson of Reedley.
“What we know so far, we had a semi tractor trailer traveling south- bound on Reed and it was going to make a left turn onto eastbound Adams Avenue,” said Jeffrey Ci- polla, a Sergeant with the California Highway Pa- trol. “As it made the left turn, the semi was broad-
sided by the orange Ford Bronco, the driver of the Ford Bronco sustained fa- tal injuries, there were no injuries to the semi truck driver.”
According to a de- tailed report, released a few days later by the Cali- fornia Highway Patrol, no drugs or alcohol appeared to be a factor in the crash, however, investigators believe the driver of the semi truck, a Coarsegold resident named Jeremy Crank, turned directly in
front of Richardson, caus- ing the deadly accident.
“Mr. Crank made the left turn directly into the path of the Bronco caus- ing the front of the Bron- co to collide with the right side of the freight liner,” the report stated.
The report also indi- cated that Richardson was not wearing the “lap- only” selt belt, during the crash.
The investigation, and whether Crank will face charges, continues.
