of first place Hoover in North Yosemite League play last week, post- ing 3-0 sweeps of Roos- evelt (Sept. 28 at RHS) and McLane (Sept. 30 in Fresno).
The Pirates (11-15, 3-1) hosted Sunnyside High on Oct. 5, then get a rematch at home against Hoover on Thursday, Oct. 7, as they try to keep their hopes alive for a fourth consecutive league title.
Two tough losses for Lady Emps
Dinuba High slipped to 3-4 in Central Sequoia League play last week, falling in four sets at Ex- eter and a tough five-set battle at Hanford West. The Lady Emps (11-13 overall) dropped a 15-8 decision in the decisive fifth set in Hanford on Sept. 30.
Leah Mosqueda had
Hawaii on Oct. 2.
The Bulldogs (4-2,
1-1 in Mountain West Conference play) were done in by six turnovers, five of them by heralded quarterback Jake Hae- ner (four interceptions and a lost fumble). Parli- er native and Sanger/
12 kills while Apolonia Martinez added four ace serves and 19 digs against Hanford West. Bethany Moreno had a team-high 10 kills against Exeter.
Dinuba's scheduled home match with Selma on Oct. 4 was postponed by poor air quality in the region. No makeup date has been set.
WATER POLO RHS teams still unbeaten in NYL
Reedley High's wa- ter polo teams remained unbeaten in North Yo- semite League play. The boys (12-2, 4-0) blasted Roosevelt 23-2 on Sept. 28 while the girls (15-6, 2-0) drubbed Roosevelt 15-2 on Sept. 28.
A scheduled girls match with Sunnyside on Oct. 4 was postponed by poor air quality. Next up for Reedley was a scheduled Oct. 6 home game against Hoover.
Buchanan product Jalen Cropper also had a lost fumble in the late night game.
Fresno State roared back from an early 10-0 deficit, eventually build- ing a 24-10 lead entering the final quarter. But the turnovers piled up over
the final 15 minutes, and Hawaii scored 17 unan- swered to take the lead late.
It still appeared the Bulldogs would pull out another exciting last-second victory, but a tipped Haener pass was intercepted at the
2-yard-line with just nine seconds remaining to seal Fresno's fate.
Cropper had a 35-yard TD reception to put the Bulldogs up 21-10, and finished with five catches for 73 yards. Haener was 28 of 50 for 388 yards and three scores along with
the interceptions. Defensively, Arron
Mosby (Sanger) finished with one tackle.
The Bulldogs have their first bye of the sea- son this week, returning to action Saturday, Oct. 16, with a MWC game at the University of Wyo- ming.
