Immanuel Selma Dinuba Exeter Kingsburg CV Christian Hanford West 0-3 Tuesday, March 19 0-12 Thursday, March 21 PREPS Continued from page B3 Eagles (11-1) and Bears (10-2) were 3-0 entering the game. Results were unavail- able at press time. Immanuel's latest two wins were at home last week. First came a 4-1 deci- sion over Dinuba on March 19 as junior JT Friesen pitched a complete-game six- hitter with seven strikeouts and just one walk. Friesen also knocked in two runs as the Eagles jumped to the lead and never looked back. Senior Moses Gomez had two hits and scored a run. That was followed by a 12-3 drubbing of Fresno Christian in the annual Founda- tion Game on March 21. The Eagles col- lected 12 hits, three by Friesen and two each by Trace Pires and Derek Wood. A five-run third inning gave the hosts a commanding 7-0 lead, and after Fresno Christian scored three in the fourth IHS answered with four of its own in the bot- tom of the frame. Matt Tiger worked four innings of relief to pick up the win, allowing three unearned runs. Ryan Friesen struck out two in a scoreless inning of relief to close out the win. The Eagles host Hanford West High in a 7 p.m. start Friday, March 29, at Im- manuel Sports Complex. SOFTBALL Reedley rolls in league opener The NYL season began on a winning note for Reedley High's defending league champions on March 26. The Pirates jumped out to the lead early to a 7-1 home victory over Fresno High. Reedley (8-6, 1-0) had last played eight days earlier, a home loss to Chowchilla. Reedley then will have consecu- tive 3:30 p.m. NYL home games against McLane (Tuesday, April 2) and Sunnyside (Friday, April 5). Immanuel drops fourth straight The IHS girls carried a four-game los- ing streak — three of them in Central Se- quoia League play — into a March 26 home game against Selma High. Results of that game were unavailable at press time. The Eagles (2-8-1, 0-3 CSL) gave up 11 runs in the first three innings of an 11-0 shutout loss at Dinuba High on March 19. Sophomore Erica Flores pitched a one-hitter over five innings while striking out 11, and the Lady Em- perors offense capitalized on eight hits. Immanuel then dropped a 14-0 home de- cision to Orange Cove on March 23 in a non-league makeup game that had been rained out on March 12. Last week, the Tigers were out- scored 31-13 in suffering three losses to the third place team in the Central Valley Conference, the Taft College Cougars. Despite two doubles and a home run off the bat of Josh Mares, Reedley dropped the series opener at Taft on March 19 by an 8-5 score. The Tigers scored four times in the fifth inning on a two-run single by Deagan Risnes and a two-run double by Mares to take a 5-3 lead. But Taft put together two run rallies in both the seventh and eighth innings to take the win. In Reedley on Thursday, the Ti- gers rallied in the eighth inning to cut a 7-1 deficit to 7-6 before the Cougars scored eight times in the top of the ninth on the way to a 15-6 win. Both Mares and Risnes drove in two RC runs. On Saturday in Taft, Jake Renteria and Mitch Silvas each had two hits in an 8-2 loss. Reedley was scheduled to return to action on Tuesday, March 26, with a 6 p.m. home contest with Merced. The Tigers then head to Merced for a 6 p.m. contest with the Blue Devils on Thursday, March 28, before returning home for a 1 p.m. game with Merced on Saturday, March 30. A three-game series with Cerro Coso begins on Tues- day, April 2, with a 2 p.m. contest in Ridgecrest. Warkentin helps Fresno Pacific salvage doubleheader split A sixth-inning triple and run by Reedley High product Michael Warkentin helped lead Fresno Pacific to a 5-3 victory and doubleheader split against Holy Names University at FPU Diamond on March 23. The Sunbirds are 7-14 overall, and salvaged the fi- nale of the four-game series after the Hawks (10-16) won the first three games. Warkentin led off the bottom of the sixth with a tripler and scored the tying run on a double from Tristen Al- varez. Warkentin, the team's leading hitter with a 325 average, went 2-for-3 with two runs scoffed. His 25 hits on the season also leads the team. Brian Heffner (Madera High) homered twice in the game for the Sunbirds. In the opener, Immanuel High product Carson Schellenberg fell to 0-3 on the season while taking the loss. He has a 3.77 earned run average with 12 strikeouts and 13 walks in 14.1 in- nings of work.
