The Central Section soccer playoffs kicked off this week, with the Sanger High boys draw- ing the number one seed and Apaches girls the number two seed in their respective Division II brackets.
The County Metro Athletic Conference champion Apache boys (18-1, 9-1) had a first round bye, and will host the winner of No. 8 seed Stockdale or No. 9 Made- ra at 6 p.m. Thursday, May 20 at Tom Flores Stadium. Sanger's girls (9-4-3, 7-2-1) also drew a bye and will host either No. 7 Liberty-Madera Ranchos or 10th seeded Madera South at 6 p.m. Friday, May 21.
Dinuba High's boys (11-3-1, 9-0-1), the Cen- tral Sequoia League champion, are also in
Division II and hosted Pioneer Valley in an evening contest May 18 (results were unavail- able at press time). A win would advance the seventh-seeded Emper- ors to a Thursday, May 20, quarterfinal matchup at No. 2 Tulare Union.
Reedley High's boys (12-4-5, 8-0-2) wrapped up another North Yo- semite League crown, and drew the No. 8 seed in the rugged Division I bracket. The Pirates hosted No. 9 Buchan- an at RHS on May 18 (results unavailable at press time). A win would likely advance RHS to play Thursday, May 20, at top-seeded Clovis High.
The Reedley girls (6- 9, 6-4) finished second to Roosevelt High in the NYL, and drew the No.

Sanger High's boys basket- ball team completed a sweep of Madera schools last week to help coach Al Alvarado III reach a coaching milestone.
The Apaches (7-6, 4-2 Coun- ty Metro Athletic Conference) rolled 69-26 at Madera South on May 12 and then erupted in the second half to bury Madera High 80-55 at Sanger high gym on May 14. The first win was the 100th in Alvarado's seven seasons, making him the fourth coach in school history to reach the 100-victory mark (Dean Nich- olson is the all-time SHS leader with 215 wins in 24 seasons).
