Thieves took items from two vehicles in separate break-ins in Reedley before Christ- mas.
The first burglary occurred between 10 p.m. Dec. 23 and the morning of Dec. 24 at an apartment complex parking stall in the 900 block of East Springfield Avenue. Detec- tive Sgt. John Cates said an intruder entered through the broken back window of the vehicle and took toys, vehicle paperwork and clothes stored in the vehicle.
Sometime after 1:30 a.m. Christmas Eve, a person or persons entered an unlocked ve-
hicle parked in the 500 block of East Manning Avenue, Cates said. The thief took the vehicle owner’s manual along with some paperwork stored inside the vehicle.
There were no arrests in either case, Cates said.
Shortly after 2 p.m. Christmas Day, Cates said an employee at the Rite Aid store on East Manning Avenue confronted a man and a woman who the employee suspected of steal- ing alcohol products. The suspects exchanged words with the employee and fled the scene on foot, Gates said.
There were no arrests as of Jan. 2, Cates said.

John Robertson, engineer for the city of Reedley, introduced Sufia Samaan to the City Council at the Dec. 12 meeting. Samaan is the newest engineering assistant hired by the department. The Fresno State graduate was selected from a field of 26 candidates, which Robertson said was the largest pool he’s had to choose from. “Sufia comes at a real critical time for us,” Robertson said. “We have some really great projects coming on, and she’ll help take on these projects.”
